I had a consult with a sleep study specialist today. The appt. was for my son Kaden, who is 3, soon to be 4yrs old. The Dr. felt he would benefit from having the study done. My son has not reached his full dose of Topamax yet. He is on 30mg now, and needs to work up to 75mg. My Q is, what are your thoughts about my son waiting till he gets to his full dose of Topamax before he has the study done? The doctor mentioned that seizure activity might be able to be seen, along with other issues related to sleep. Since my sons seizures are deep within the brain - EEG not being able to pick them up..I figured if I wait a few months, I might know if the full dose of Topamax is controling his seizures.

Above said, I don't know if my son will be able to complete the study given his age. For those who have had a sleep study, how difficult do you all think this would be for an almost 4yr old to do?

Thanks for any input :)

Well, my husband has had the sleep study done once or twice before. He's had to spend the night and they moniter how much he wakes up, and how is sleeping pattern is. He has sleep apnea and has to have a machine at night to help give him a better night's sleep. Now since your son is 4 yrs old, I dont know how he will do. Did the dr say you could be with him during the study? If I were in your shoes, i would probably just go ahead and have it done, even if he wasnt on the full dose of Topamax. They might be able to pick up seizures, or anything that may help his neurologist out.

I would think the less medication your son is on the more likely the study will show how the actual misfiring occurs within his brain.
