I spoke to HR yesterday and she had told me "off the record" that I should definitely look into applying to SSDI especially with the amount of time I've been missing.

She did mention that I could apply, but still work part time (I'm currently working 24 hours). How true is this?

I know that it is like pulling teeth applying for SSDI with epilepsy, and want things to go as smoothly as possible. Where should I start?

I don't know how your program works there but here in Ontario since you have a job and whatnot it would be impossible to get anything...

A person with a disability is someone who has a substantial physical or mental impairment that:

is continuous or recurrent
is expected to last a year or more.

And, the physical or mental impairment must directly result in a substantial restriction in the person's
ability to:

work
take care of him or herself or
take part in community life.

Maybe you could end up fighting this and saying you are only able to work x amount of weeks but then you would need specialists saying it etc etc. And you don't know how much they will pay you if you win so you could end up in a lot of debt.

Thanks for the information! I guess my main concern is that my epilepsy comes in clusters. By that, I mean I could be seizure free for seven or eight months, and then I'll have seizures every day for God knows how long.

I'm just worried that I'd be wasting time, and end up being stuck in a rut.

How are things going with this? I am curious, and somewhat in the same position. Thanks!

Working while on SSDI

skyfire,
I have spent some time looking at the SSA website on-line and it seems that at this date a person can earn about $1000/mth before those earnings start affecting your SSDI payments. This would mean that at the number of hours you are working(24/wk), you could earn about $9.69/hr or if you make more that that amount you would have to work fewer hours/wk.
This amount changes each year so the amount may be different by the time that you apply.
