Hi lisamarie --

I know you're in a tough position -- watching and waiting and hoping for the best -- and I'd like to be re-assuring. But with epilepsy there are no 100% guarantees, since everyone is different in terms of their histories and sensitivities. There's no way to predict how any one person will react to medication. In general though, the slower the tapering and ramping-up process, and the smaller the increments, the less likely there are to be problems. Throughout the process, you and your husband should pay attention to how he's feeling, and call the neurologist if something doesn't seem right.

Keep your fingers crossed and we will too.

BTW -- why are they making the medication switch?

My first concern is, why are they changing him from the Lamotrogine/Carbamazepine combo, to Eplim? Was the combo suddenly no longer effective?

I switched from a Dilantin/Phenobarbital combo, back when I was 16(1983), Tegratol. Because the combo of those two pills was said to lose its' effectiveness, as kids reached their teens. I switched from Tegratol, to Carbatrol, in 2003, for the same reason.

there changing his medication because he having memory loss forgetting things he suffering from mouth uclers and painful sores and the doctor thinks its best to put him on epilim to make him feel comfortable ,the dotor put my husband on epilim 16 years ago but had to change to medication he on now because it wast working for him so i dont knw why they are putting him on epilim again when he can have fits ,but he lot older now so he may be able to cope with it , thank you very much for this it really has helped me x
