Shelly, I know I'm an old fa--, but your Zappa reference brought back memories. My wife and I used to go to the Village (Greenwich) nearly every week. The Mothers held forth at The Garret Theatre and the atmosphere was actually more laid back and club like than a concert. He began to recognize "The Regulars". So many things still stick out in my memory of their live performances. Somewhere around here are all of his albums up to about '76 or so. You need to hear one of his best compositions: "Peaches In Regalia". It should be impressive. Remember, It's 1969.

Shelly, Turns out there a bunch of recordings of Peaches on Ytube. Some great, some of poor quality. When they'd do it live they would jam it for a half hour or so. Some of their jams were so long that Zappa or another player would lay down his instrument and sit down for a smoke. One night the air conditioning had broken down. Zappa bought Cokes with ice for 300 people. He's the stuff of legend, and we saw him at least 15 times in two years. I well remember the obscene puppet shows they'd put on during long performances using the upright piano for a stage. They were amazing and they'll not be this way again. His son Dweezil plays it sometimes. Find one you like and let me know what you think. It's on Hot Rats, We're Only In It For The Money, and a few others. Enjoy.

PS The name of the Theatre was Garrick, not Garret. Oh well; I'm officially old anyway.
