Hello everyone,

Since the start of my epilepsy back in 1993 at the age of 19, I've had around ten different neurologists. Reason for so many is because of me moving all the time.
Wish I had stayed in Tucson, Az where I lived from 1997 to 2000. Had the best neurologist there where I went seizure free for 3 years, but unfortunately for me had to move out of state once again. :(

Since being diagnosed in 2006 have had 5. I just saw my 6th on the 6th of Nov. He seemed very thorough and wants to see me again in 6 mts. I haven't had any episodes since 2008. I am faithfully taking my meds.
I am happy!
M

I've had two (since 1999), but have to start looking for #3 since #2 left. I haven't been real keen on the first two, but since I have seizure control at the moment so the particular doc is less crucial.

Since 1990, I've seen 3 epileptologists and 3 neurosurgeons. I no longer see a "neurologist" because I have refractory E, very difficult to control. Back in the 80's, and before 1990, (the year I had my lobectomy), I had seen 4 or 5 neurologists, to no avail.

I was diagnosed at the age of 2 in 1964. The longest been seizure free is 8months.
I've seen a dozen probably more neurologist/specialist.I've seen them in Ga,Ark,Ca,SC,Maryland and canada.
I'm refractory and my seizures will never stop one neuro said and he's shocked now.
my mother thinks I should have surgery again.

So how many of us have had at least one favorite neurologist? Out of about the ten I've had, I'd unfortunately have to say one favorite. Very sad! :(

I don't have a favorite but the most respected. I've ever had is the one I have now.

He doesn't talk down to you and will explain things to you if you don't understand.

I've been seeing him 25 years.

I've had two neurologists. I don't remember anything about the first one because he moved and I had to switch to the one I have now. I really like the neuro I'm with now. He listens and gives good advice. He tries to let me make the decisions on things and not telling me "This is what we are going to do now".

I saw a neuro practitioner for about 2 years along with my neuruo who I hated. She was one that TOLD me what to do and didn't listen at all. I told her off in the office and haven't seen her since.

I have a VNS and had one surgeon put it in and another surgeon to replace the battery. I know I met them but I don't remember what they were like at all.

I've had two, soon to be three in a few weeks. My favorite was my first one, because his bedside manner was top notch.

I've seen 4 total, 2 long term, since 2012. Not super keen on any of them, especially my current one.

I am only going from 2002 when my seizures returned.
I saw the same neurologist from 2002 - 2010 in my home town.
I saw a epiologist in June 2010 to discuss surgery then his collegue in Nov 2010 when I was in for VEEG who were in the clinic & worked at the hospital I had my surgery.
I have been going to the epilepsy clinic at the hospital i had my surgery since my surgery & been seeing the same neurologist at the clinic since June 2011.

Well the total would be my best guess. I'll break it done from memory.

I've seen only one pediatric neurologist. Who I went to all throughout jr/sr high school.

For the next couple years I've seen at least four different neurologists. None of which
helped me any. It was their bright idea to take me off AEDs.

Between jobs a year later I had two tonic clonics. Which got me an emergency appointment with a new neurologist. This neurologist helped me a lot in the 4/5yrs. I'd still be going, but this neurologist moved away. :(

My current neurologist and hopefully last, I have been with since ^-- moved away. I've been on the longest road with this one.

To complete my epilepsy road I've also been seen by one neuropsychologist (twice).
I've been fortunate in having to (hopefully) only see one neurosurgeon.

So my neurology stats are: 7 / 1 / 1

neurologists / neuropsychologist / neurosurgeon

Hopefully 711 are truly lucky numbers for me.

Out of the 2 neurologists I've seen, I do prefer the one I see now.
He is great, has a great sense of humor & talks to me about what he will do before he does anything (eg when he alters my meds).

I do like my original neuro who I saw from 2002 - 2009 as he was lovely & I could also joke with him but he used to mainly just increase or change my meds.

I've had 3 neurologists and 1 epileptologist. And my favorite dr was the 1st neurologist I saw, he was a happy old guy but retired after my first 2, or 3 appointments.

Two neurologists. One pediatric and one big boy neurologist. I've been happy with them. I'm a confusing case. They keep using me as a lecture example.

I'm on number nine in seven years if it helps. A couple (two maybe three) were for location reasons, I've moved a few times. Others were just bad. Or the kind of neurologist that say they deal with epilepsy but there specialty is truly elsewhere (strokes, Parkinson migraines etc) so they dont deal with the seizures for what they are, which would be, seizures. So you just get put through a useless ringer.

Depends on if you are counting others I've seen for second opinions to verify times when I've lost confidence in my everyday neuro.

I've had 3 over 20 years that I've seen for at least a few years. And, I've seen 3 others for second opinions (sometimes more than once) over that time. If you count those then 6 total.

Due to side effect issues, I've also seen a slew of specialists in other arenas too.

I have Kaiser HMO insurance and they keep moving their people around and others retire so I have had half a dozen or so.
