How long was the average length of
your stay?

You may make any comments you wish.

Lemme ask you this......can I vote more than once?
Is this poll just for VEEGs in the hospital? I had one at home.
Does the poll include intracranial VEEGs?

Ah....the questions. :)

Hi Wendy,

Yes you can add them all together!

:)

Ok....

4 days at home
4 days intrcranial
11 days VEEG
8 days VEEG

27 days total

6.75 days average.

When I was going through the 5 months of pre-surgical testing for the Gamma-Knife Surgery unfortunately this was one test I had to have. I'd have to say it was my least favorite. At the time, I had to have at least 4 seizures show on the video screen just to be considered for the Gamma- Knife, and I had to have them in a 5 day period. It was so stressful because there were two other candidates in seperate rooms near me and they were having their seizures left and right. At the time I never thought I would say this but I wished I was in their position just so I could get it out of the way and be able to go home. Well, let's just say absolutely NOTHING happened until the very last day. I guess that saying is true "When it rains, it pours." That is what happened, I had 4 Grand-mal seizures right in a row, they just would not stop. It was Horrible!! But, luckily thanks to that, I was able to have the surgery. Oh! I am so glad that is over!!

I have had it done twice. The first time before surgery a couple years ago I was there for 7 days and then started the Tonic-Clonics real good and stayed for three more days doing every kind I do!
Now I just did it again and on the 7th day I was just starting with SP's and they said that was good you can go. I don't understand why they didn't wait and see if I would go farther like last time. When I got home I had 2 TC's and am very mad that they had me leave.
I want my old doctor back!!!!!

Visit at Mayo

Spent five nights six days in the hosppital they slowly weaned me off of my medications had from what I here four big seizures that hopefully provide enough info gained they also did a specscan on the last sz that I had During this they injected a isotoupe sp. that allows improved imaging with a 360 degree shots. they say it will be two weeks then they decide weather I am a canidate for surgery

Veeg

I am having my first one done the last week of july, they wont give me a set amount of time they want me to spend there, which is making it very hard to get childcare (Single mum with 3 kids),I've been told it could be anything from 48hrs to 9 days...I can only get 6 days max for childcare for my youngest...can you discharge yourself if childcare becomes an issue?

the last one I had the doctor who was suppose to have been a specialist had taken me off all my meds for the VEEG.When she started discharge she never put me back on my meds.:e::soap::ponder::bigmouth:::twocents::agree:

Hi Loudmouth,

As far as I know, this is an elective test. I would think you could check yourself out any time you wish.
It is hard to schedule this. Husband was with me, people can and went, kids were with the in-laws. Everyone scrambled.
I won't do it again.

To answer the question, I was there 6 days.
It was pure hell. I won't ever do it again unless something drastic happens with my seizure patterns.

To answer the question. the last time i had veeg, i was in hospital for 12 long, long, long :crazy2:days. Then the doctors never had me come back and get results, or call neuro with results. To say the least i was very mad:mad::mad: I told the doctor, before going in, i new i was not a canidate for brain surgery, as i had a veeg done before and it told me then. Boy how can some doctors be....

The first one was 7 days. don`t want to have another one.

Both of them did not have computer, so was bored. did not take any books or paper to do poetry. Did not want to watch tv all day and it cost also for the tv.:ponder::giveup:

veeg

After my first 2 and so far only seizures in Dec I was scheduled for inpatient veeg ..Neurologist said 5 days but then my ins said 3 days were approved. I was admitted on a Monday and I asked if I should take my meds .they said yes , when the neuro stopped in that evening I told him his office had confirmation from ins that the stay would be 3 days unless he requested a longer stay. He said to remind him on Tuesday that I would be discharged wednesday instead of Friday. He also said to keep on meds....so all I can think is that he wanted a kind of baseline eeg over 24- 48 hrs to look for anything unusual. I had no seizures and when I got home called his office to schedule the appt to go over the eeg and I go in next Monday ...@ a month post eeg to see him. I am not expecting any news...The eeg techs were great in hosp and tv was free ..just a pains as I had to ring for help whenever I needed to get out of bed...finally a nice nurse said she'd stay in the room with me so I could get out of bed to walk around....I can't imagine a longer stay especially if there is no seizure activity.

Mine was a 4 day VEEG. I was admited on a monday morning, and released on a friday mid morning. It wasnt that bad, but with having seizures, it pretty much takes the time away... like I cant recall alot of what happened on the third and fourth days with the seizures going on. I guess it could have been worse....

anybody never sure when to press button?and can they tell its a seizure if you are sleeping and you dont press button?

I was in for 5 days - went in Monday morning & left Saturday morning.

Mel -

I think they can still tell if you have a seizure when you dont press the button. I was told that because the video EEG was running constantly it made it easier for them to find the seizure activity if you pressed the button.

I'm not sure about everywhere but the hospital I stayed at liked you to have a carer to keep an eye on you & press the button if you weren't able to.

When I had my Video EEG I sleep deprived myself during my monitoring, only sleeping approx 2 -3 hours per night. One time in the middle of the night I felt an aura come & thought I'd pressed the button. My Mum was asleep on a fold out bed next to me & I didnt want to disturb her so didnt tell her about the aura until she woke the next morning lol. I told the drs when they came in to see me the next day & they checked the video/eeg. The Video showed that I did take an aura & I was looking at the button but not pressing it lol.
