In the last few months I was told by my doctors at a university hospital that they could not implant Responsive Nerve Stimulator leads or any depth electrodes into my right temporal lobe because of a previous operation on that area. Apparently the scar tissue leaves it hard for the surgeon to implant into this area. These doctors suggested more removing more tissue from that site before I try RNS.
Then I went to another epilepsy specialist at another clinic who told me that they could implant the RNS leads into my brain. I'm puzzled by how strongly specialists can disagree on this. It seems that either it can be done or it cannot. Are there any patients out there who can tell me they have had the RNS leads implanted into brain tissue which has had surgery on it before?
