Perhaps there is a better way to protect yourself.
I know for the past two years Vitamin D has made a huge improvement in Rebecca and my ill days (zero) due to flu or the common cold.

Hi Robin, none of us get enough Vitamin D. I am taking Vitamin D on a daily basis. I will try to encourage my husband and son to take it too. They do not feel like they need it.
I am glad to hear that it also works for the flu. There have been 9 more cases of H1N1 in a town close by.

My twins are better, sigh. My boy started school again last monday, he was ill for 2 weeks. My girl went to school again yesterday, she was ill for 9 days. My eldest boy was lucky, he didn't get it.

Hi Dutch mom,

I am glad your twins are well. It was a tough go of it for you. I hope your eldest does not get it.

I am coming down with something. H1N1 is going around our small town. Last night, I got real sick. I took some Pedialyte, it is electroytes. Electrolyes replaces fluid to prevent dehydration It also stops vomiting and diarrhea. I am cleaning my bedding, because I figure we are going to be pals for the next few days. We had a tree cut down a few days ago by someone from the phone book. I think that is where I got it from.

I felt fine last evening and I went to my meeting. There were only about 40 friends there. There are usually over 100. Now, I have exposed my friends. It was in the middle of the night when I woke up real sick. I still am real sick but I thought I would tell you how I am doing, since this is our discussion and how I am treating it. Robin said to take Vitamin D. I did this morning. I will be to sick to be on the internet for a few days.

Ruth you need to take the Vit D as a preventative. I wouldn't just begin now to take it. As with any vitamin, mineral, medicine, you should begin on the low side, and ramp up to the point that is recommended or prescribed. If you are feeling ill, it is not the time to begin taking anything new.

Sorry to hear that you are ill. Feel better

Hi Robin, I have been taking Vitamin D for some time now. I just thought I would mention it for other people who are not taking it. That is probably why I am not as sick as other people. The H1N1 is spreading rapidly around here.

I have Diabetes and my blood glucose is dropping rapidly. I am having to eat more than usual. If it drops too low, I could have seizures or a coma. My fever is burning it up rapidly.

Robin, thank you for caring. I think I have a mild case. I am not coughing like everyone else is. Again on the news, they say what to do for it. One new thing they suggested is the Dracula cough. That is where you put your arm around your nose and cough into your elbow. They called it that at school so it would get the childrens attention.

Where I am in canada (winnipeg) our health science centre was supposedly the first one to crack the strain code on the virus.

But we were recently told this is an airbourne virus. Good thing they sent evryone hand sanitizer and told everyone masks werent needed.

Although the masks wouldnt do anything anyway.

hmmmm. I havent gotten it (yet) but it seems like there are a lot more people in winnipeg every couple of days getting it.

We even had a case of a lady just outside winnipeg getting super ill and she ws in a coma for 15 days and on a ventilator, and this coffee shop refused her husband entrance because she got ill.

I talked to my doctor today. She is not saying that someone should take the vacinne or not. She is leaving it up to each individual.

She did say, it is very rare, it can cause Guillian-Barre (I hoped I spelled it right). I have not looked it up to see how rare it is.

I have bumps under my skin and patches of white showing. I will not be able to get an appointment with a dermatologist until January. Until then, I do not know what is causing it. I was told 2 years ago by a neurologist that I have Stevens-Johnson Syndrome again. I had it as a child and it can go into remission and come back later in life. He died in a car accident about 2 months later.

A dermatologist can take a tissue sample and do a biopsy to find out if it is. I will have to wait until January.

If something else is going on, I do not want the H1N1 flu shot until I know. I am going to be tested for cancer next. I had 5 lab tests so far and they have come back normal.

Desiree Jennings thought it would be a good idea to get the seasonal flu shot. Her job offered incentives for it, and she didn't want to get sick.

Ten days after she got the shot at a Reston Safeway, she did get sick.

"I got flu-like symptoms -- nausea, vomiting, body aches, fever -- then was lethargic for a week and started blacking out," said Jennings, an AOL employee and Washington Redskins ambassador hoping to one day be a cheerleader for the team, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reported.

Doctors couldn't figure out why her ability to speak and walk were so adversely affected. She saw neurologists, physical therapists and psychologists.

Finally, doctors at Johns Hopkins figured it out, diagnosing dystonia, a rare neurological condition with no cure brought on by infections, brain trauma or, as is believed in her case, reaction to medication. It causes body jerks and abnormal or repetitive movements.

"A simple conversation with two people -- you and I could converse on the couch, and if the phone were to ring it would send her into a violent convulsion," said her husband, Brendan Jennings.

Strangely enough -- as she can't walk forward five feet without stumbling -- with some effort, she can perform one of her life's passions: running. And she walks backward with ease -- oddly empowering, now. After her ordeal began, "My insurance wasn't going to pay for another hospital visit. Matter of fact, they called us as we were driving to Johns Hopkins not to offer a specialist but instead to offer a hospital bed and a wheelchair for our house. I told them I wanted to know what was happening to me and that I didn't want to be in a wheelchair."

Her reaction is one in a million, doctors said.

"I would've much rather won the lottery and bought that ticket instead of gotten the flu shot if I knew that risk existed," she said.

It was predicted by many.... but they claim that to help the masses, a few lives must be jeopardized. I doubt it is the last we will hear of this.

I have had the seasonal flu shot. I was not told about the Guillian-Barre Syndrome. That is associated with that.

I am glad I was able to make it to my computer. Tonight I feel real hot to the touch all over. I am not coughing or vomiting or any of that.

My symptoms started this afternoon. I did not feel hungry. I made myself eat dinner because I am a diabetic.

Shortly after dinner, I felt like I was going to pass out. I went to bed and I did pass out. Tonight my brain is numb. It is as I am writing this.

I will try to keep you posted on my symptoms. Hopefully, they will go away.
