2 Year old having her first fit in her sleep

My 2 year old had her first ever fit on thursday night, while having the fit she was asleep but also sick, it sounded like she was chocking and she was out of it. She was fitting for around 10 mintues and was rushed to hospital where she picked up the next day and was discharged.
They have told us they couldnt find any reason why she had this fit but will not test for Epilepsy if or untill she has another one.
This has made me and my husband watch everything she does and we will not leave her side, at night she is sleeping with us as we are scared she will have another in her sleep and we will not hear her.

Does anyone know of any monitors that are good and will pick up movement like children having a fit? I know you can get Epilepsy ones but these cost hundards and were not sure its that yet.

Can anyone recommend anything??

I'm sorry you are in this situation; I can't imagine how scared you and your husband must be. My heart goes out to you.

I'm so sorry to hear, and I can't be of much advice in this circumstance... was your child running a fever anytime around then?

It could have been a one off event. The thing is, seizures are not considered epilepsy unless the person has 2 or more. So I could see their reasoning in not wanting to waste expensive testing when several people have one off events. IF there is a second seizure, then it is most likely epilepsy, unless fevers are present. In which case they would be febrile seizures.

What you can do if you are worried for now is sleep in the same room as her or buy a baby monitor. This way you will be able to hear her seizures. (as not all seizure involve convulsions) Usually if a child has epilepsy, the next seizure wont be too far behind without medication to control them (this typically means 2 weeks to a few months between seizures, although it doesnt always work like that)

I agree with RAE1889

But my nephew who is four now, has cerebral palsy and has seizures and my brother has always had a regular video monitor, you don't need to splurge on an expensive epilepsy one although i'm sure they're great.

I know it can be scary. in fact it wasn't until my nephew had one that i realized what they were like for other people.

best things i can suggest are avoiding sugar before bed and you can have her sleep on her side.

my nephew is pretty tired afterwards and it helps a lot to just be there. you just being there is one of the best things. you can sleep in the same room if it eases your comfort.
