My grandson of 3 years is suffering with epilepsy.
He has been to a specialist in London England and was put on Sodium Valproate.He still experiences the condition although his dosage has been changed.It usually affects him about 5am and could occur twice a month.
Would appreciate any advise from someone, because as I understand it there are meds that should eliminate these occurences.

The word that was always used to describe what AED's do to my seizure is "control". Some people are lucky enough in that they no longer have seizures, others like myself have lighter seizures (I no longer convulse) but my lesser seizures are not well controlled and very frequent.

There is a large variety of anti-epileptic drugs out there. Maybe a different one would work better for your grand-son.

Since being on Tegretol I no longer convulse. Clonzepam has cut back my lighter seizures but I still have them but less frequently. There is no cure for epilepsy- meds., as already said, aim to control them and some people go years without a fit. Chat with you GP - always the best advice

I am on 3 meds at this time. I have had seizures since i have been born ( have had them overr 55 years) My seizures are still not under control. I have no idea when my seizures are coming on, i only know after ward that i had one. I am very tired from these all day and you need to sleep, takes alot out of the body.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my post.I actually had to take my grandson yesterday for an EEG. He was having convulsion regularly also he had an ECG, during whichhe had an attack.HIs mother was able to capture it on video and will send it to a consultant in England.I an convinced that meds can only reduce the magnitude of the attacks but I'm havong difficulty convincing my daughter of this.She is very anxious and impatient.Wish me good luck.

A lot of people, especially parents refuse to accept that it can't be cured, at least for a while. Hopefully your daughter will get beyond that soon.

I've noticed that doctors never use the word "cure" when talking about seizures and have learned to be suspicious of anyone who claims they can cure seizures.
 
my GP never uses the word cure but instead she use the phrase- to control the symptoms
