Good morning.
* What information can anyone provide to me on the best direction to document seizures?
* Has anyone ever been told that some of their seizures may be psychogenic?
* Anyone have any information to help going before AF medical evaluation board?
Thank you for your feedback!

Welcome to CWE, DWH1946.

This forum was made by Bernard out of love for his wife Stacy. That love permeates throughout the whole forum.

The best way to keep track of your seizures is to start a seizure diary. Every time you have a seizure, write it down to the best of your ability. Then when you see your neurologist, give it to him/her and he/she will have a better understanding of your seizures.

I was told once that my some of my seizures were psychogenic. The actual term for it is NEAD (Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder.)

Personally I like the online "seizuretracker.com" for keeping track of seizures.

As for PNES (Pychogenic Non-Eplieptic Seizures) as psychogenic seizures can also be called, I was initially diagnosed with this by a general neurologist. Via another specialist in another field I was sent to an epileptologist (seizure specialist) who disagreed, sent me for various tests, and seizures with frontal lobe origin was the diagnosis. So, if a general neurologist is making a PNES diagnosis in your case, you may want to see an epileptologist for a second opinion.

Hi DWH1946, welcome to CWE!

In addition to using a seizure diary, it can be helpful to have the seizures recorded on video. When do the seizures occur? If they occur at night, you might be able to document them with a motion-activated camera or webcam.

As masterjen notes "Psychogenic Seizures" can sometimes be the diagnosis made by an inexperienced clinician, particularly one who is relying on a positive EEG to do so. But a good neurologist/epileptologist should be able to make an epilepsy diagnosis based on the actual clinical seizure symptoms. If you don't feel comfortable with your current neuro, don't be shy about seeking a second or third opinion.

Some CWE threads about PNES can be found here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/tags/pnes.html

I think we've had a few CWE members who have been in the military -- hopefully they will see your post and chime in. Below are some threads from the CWE archive that might help:

Thank you!

Taking the time to respond as you have done is great. My documentation has been very detail; time of day, type to best of my ability, specifics of the seizure, how long did it take to recover, etc. The specialists basically said you are in good shape like blowing us off. Sad!
