Hi everyone,

Glad to have found this sight. Our 2 boys, ages 8 and 12 were dx w/ absence seizures about 2 yrs ago. We had them on depakote which made behavior worse (it was already unbearable w/ younger son). Our neuro suggested adhd meds so we reluctantly tried that...and went through several to find one w/o horrible side effects. A year later, after a scare of liver damage we stopped the meds and went to a chiro who specializes in nutritional therapy. My younger son has had severe behavior problems so we started w/ him. We found out he was deficient in magnesium, calcium and zinc. After supplementing the last 5 mo. we have seen a drastic improvement in hyperactivity. Toxic metals also showed up, along with candida albicans. We have also changed diets. No processed foods (never really did much of that), no msg, food coloring, eating sprouted grains, drastically reducing sugar, and eating mostly organic. We are continuing treatment because it's making a difference, but he is still having a LOT of focus problems in school. I don't know if he's still having a.s. We never saw the stereotypical staring spells. This therapy is not a quick fix, but I would love to hear from someone with a similar story.

Hey...I would love to take some time to reply to this post but too tired right now. I will try in the am...bump it up to remind me!Thanks!

How long have you been making these changes? It has taken a couple of years for us to see major improvement in my daughters seizure control.
You might consider:
There are vitamins that increase yeast
Vit D
Omega 3
Do not give Cal at the same time as Mag.
Probiotics

Actually your situation sound very similar to the disorders that fall on the ASD spectrum.
I would suggest that you contact:

He has been able to help a lot of people find medical support.

So are you saying the things you listed would increase candida? The calcium and mag. has helped drastically with the hyperactivity. The 2nd hair analysis we did showed the calcium/mag. levels to be nearly in the normal range, so we might be stopping those soon. The first one showed major deficiencies. He is also taking omegas, Bcomplex w/trace minerals, digestive enzymes, a "weed and feed" program for candida, and whole food multivitamins. He has also been taking a small dose of gingko synergy, but I'm not sure that's working. We've been doing a high protein and fat, low carb diet. He is a different kid after he's eaten! He used to have a lot of sensory issues, and he doesn't have an issue with that anymore. He is also remorseful when he misbehaves, and will even cry...which he never did before. The main problem is school right now. We are trying to seek different options if we can't get more support at school. They go to a private Christian school.

oh, a little on his history...he was very colicky as a baby, NEVER napped, and had thrush just about his entire first year of life. I also had mastitis 5 times during his first year.

Hi kidart, welcome to the forum. :hello:

My wife used to have multiple, daily absence seizures - especially any time that she was tired/exhausted or exited/overstimulated. She hasn't had an absence seizure in over a decade now since she used neurofeedback the first time. :twocents:
