I agree. There has to be a way to control guns. I wish politicians would focus on crime, gun control, drug and teen violence. I'm praying for all those victims. I'm praying something will be done to prevent things like this from happening. I'm praying for healing, hope, life and world peace for every man, woman and child!

"United" we can do all things!

I do believe in the power of prayer. I'm a living testimony "Prayer Changes Things".

Amen!

Keep praying because they're saying the shooter isn't co-operating with authorities. He had explosives, also, and knows something about explosives. This happened at the opening of the Batman Dark Knight Rises movie. Twelve people were killed. 52 victims in all.

Wow. :( that is horrible. I'm not fond of guns either. My brother is a big proponent of firearms, he has a license to carry a concealed weapon. When we try to discuss guns, it usually ends in him getting upset and trying to remind me guns don't kill people, people kill people and the 2nd amendment (right to bear arms).

I'm off to find your news story Cint.

Just make guns illegal. That'll stop those criminals.

Making guns illegal will make all gun dealings go underground, and be controlled by criminals instead of by a business/government.

That would lead to an increase in gun violence, because of the nature of criminal organizations. It would also create an unarmed populace that couldn't defend itself from said organizations, and police agencies are not equipped to handle an increase like that, so they wouldn't be much good against them. Most criminal organizations are far better equipped than most police agencies, so to stop the violence the military would likely have to be used in higher population areas.

It also opens the can of worms of having an unarmed populace...

One more thing, that shooter, regardless of the legality of weapons, would have gotten his hands on a weapon. A person who is planning to shoot up a location doesn't care what the law says, they don't even expect to leave the location alive. They know that, and they've reached a point of not caring.

The issue isn't gun control at all. The issue is, why did this man reach that point? Why did nobody intervene earlier? The issue is with the mans mental state and how it was allowed to reach that point, not what weapons he may or may not have had.

He also had explosives on him, which are something one doesn't purchase at a gun shop.... which goes to show how much planning he put into this. He took the time to procure illegal explosives, or make home-made ones to set off. If he could do either of those, you can bet he would have easily been able to procure an illegal firearm as well. It's not like it's hard....

In an ideal world, weapons would be pointless, but we don't exactly live in a world that is close to "ideal". :?

I'll stop here... I don't want to start an argument over gun control because it's not the point. This was a tragedy, and I hope the families are able to cope with what happened. :(

Every time an incident like this happens, the same statements are copy-pasted again and again and again.

Incidents such as this from just two days ago are unnoticed by those busy copying and pasting.

Even assuming guns didn't exist, this person could have probably murdered as many by running them down in the parking lot. He was clearly intent on murder and would have figured out a way regardless.

BTW, you should check your sarcasm detection settings.

newsbot - I quoted your post because it accurately summed up the rest of the responses, and the typical reaction every time something like this happened. Not as a personal jab against you.

just plain sick thats it thats all----my sympathy and prayers to those affected

Exactly...... here's what there saying now on the live Denver channel....

According to police sources, Holmes told the officers arresting him that he was "The Joker," referring to the villain in the second installment of the Batman movie trilogy, "The Dark Knight." He also warned police that he had booby-trapped his apartment, leading officers to evacuate the Aurora apartment building.
Police Chief Dan Oates said today that police and bomb squads have found a large number of explosive devices and trip wires at Holmes' apartment and have not yet decided how to proceed without setting off explosions.

"The pictures we have from inside the apartment are pretty disturbing considering how elaborate the apartment is booby trapped," police said outside of the apartment complex today. The "flammable and explosive" materials could have blown up Holmes' apartment building and the ones near it, police said.
The apartment complex is home exclusively to University of Colorado Medical Center students, patients, and staff members, residents tell ABC News.
Moviegoer Christopher Ramos today recalled the real-life horror of the midnight premiere of the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," in Aurora, Colo., as a gunman decked in riot gear set off smoke bombs and opened fire on the unsuspecting audience.

OMG! He was also a a student at UCD! A student in Neuroscience.
But he had discharged in May for unknown reasons.

Yes tragic news indeed, owning guns became extremely difficult over here after a couple off massacares. We also had the troubles in Ireland which helped clamping down on gun laws making sure as possible guns did not fall into the wrong hands.

Also our police are still unarmed, although this is a hotly debated subject,a policeman was shot dead just a couple off weeks ago,off course we have armed response for emergencys. But each country has its own rules and regulations.

Knife crime is very high over here and is always on the news, these people that want to kill and maim, ill never understand them.

Not really......... my focus (and those of us here in Colorado) is on the innocent victims who were attacked needlessly by some IDIOT JOKER!

Exactly. If he had sought assistance or someone could have intervened early enough he could possibly have been helped. Reportedly, he's still alive only because he's in solitary confinement. It'd be a shame if anything happened to him.
