Hi rory,I was put on keppra a year ago and once they got the dosage right I had no seizures or auras but the side effects are still on going after a year.I have irritable bowel, migraines, itchy skin, insomnia one minute, falling asleep on a bus the next, constant vertigo/dizziness,no appetite at all and the once carefree chick is a thing of the past-so angry....anyway I'm now being weened off keppra and trying topamax and I feel like I am so stoned-I actually feel like I've been sitting around smoking joints!!!!!! Before keppra I was on tegretol and had shocking side effects and kept having auras until I had a big seizure and ended up in hospital. The thing I've come to realise with this crappy illness is that I will never feel normal again........ooppps ive forgotten what point I was trying to make.OMG!!!!! Ok I think I was just trying to say that some peoples side effects eventually go away but some peoples stay for ever......hmmmm...memory loss is a big side effect with me.sorry I have completely forgotten what I intended on writing

i have been having a lot of headaches and itchy skin and memory loss, its awful the memory loss, im bleach blonde so im getting a lot of blonde moments and blonde jokes. hope you have more luck with topamax, my brother is on it for migraines and he has no side effects

i have been on kepra and topax all the way till my surgery that I recently had just this past Dec 8th 2011 of the right frontal lobe for my seizures I love it

I had the lobotomy done, even though I'm still on my seizure medication i already hit my 4 month mark just this past March 29th 2011 seizure free, where i was getting full granmal seizures un controlled 3 to 4 times a week before the surgery last year and they were increasing very rapidly since 2006 where I stared to get them out of no where.

My surgery was On Dec 8th 2011 i was released on Dec 12th 2011 i have 23 titanium screws and had 58 staples that were removed 9 day laters after being released from the hospital. i suffered a fall Jan 26 at my brothers house stepping backwards falling down a flight stairs smacking my head on the surgery side into a wall that put in the E.R where they found out that I was wrong dosage of TOPAMAX.they increaseed my dosage from 50mg to 100mg I' am have been struggling with social enviornments, aniextys, panic attacks, typing, spelling, talking, speech. I wrote this post, but a friend read over it for me and corrected my spelling mistakes before i posted it. I do not want to get off the dosage till June i want to fight through this for personal reasons just like I fought for the surgery. The fall I had was not Seizure related, and even though Im still on my seizure medication i have been seizure free since the surgery. I fought for that surgery for 2 1/2 yrs when I found out that surgery was possiblity even though i would on medication afterwards.

The medication combination with kepra and Topamax is not that bad I like it it works the best for me, no joint pain, dizziness, weight gain so on and so forth like the other combonations of mediacations have taken in the past to try and control my seizures.

You will get dizzy, it does and will act as food suppresant so you have force yourself to eat when you do not want to, you will have to catch yourself when you get angry or irritable because the higher the dossage on keppra the more irratable he/she will get even over the smallest slightest little thing.

I will be making a personal thread please follow my journey where I will be posting pictures and a video. Please feel free to email me, pm, any questions you may have. I have youtube account.

hey teddy, thats mad, glad you are doing well now though, i hope you stay seizure free. i was told i could gain weight with keppra but i havent, ive even managed to lose some weight which is even better, the random nausea thing isnt pleasant though but this aed seems to be good compared to others i heard about and friends have been on, its the first one ive been on, its not too bad. i wouldnt be terribly steady on my feet at the best of times so the dizziness is bearable, as are the irritability issues which i hadnt noticed till my father told me i had become extremely defensive and irritable but now i know i deal. good luck with your journey

Hi Rory,

I am currently on 1000mg Keppra twice a day, as well as Tegretol 200mg twice a day.
I have been on Keppra since 2008 & Tegretol 2002 & have never had any major side effects on either med.

Hi Teddy,
Welcome to the forum & good luck with remaining seizure free after your surgery.

I had left front temporal lobe surgery on march 10 2011 & so far I have had a great recovery. Before my surgery I was taking auras & complex partials which I probably took every couple of weeks, although I am sure I had a lot more auras then I knew. Before surgery the longest I had gone without a seizure was approx 1 month without an aura & 5 months without a complex partial so after the surgery I set myself a goal to go 6 months seizure free. I am now over 12 months seizure free & now aiming to go 2 years seizure free.
