For you that have auras and no full blown seizures, is the aura a form of a seizure? simple paritial seizure maybe? I've had several auras and have tried to brush it off that since it wasn't a full blown seizure than it's nothing. Guess I don't want to face it! It's a scary road I know since I dealt with complex paritial seizures for over 27 years before having a right temporal lobectomy. Have been seizure free, other than a few auras.

An aura is also known as a simple partial seizure.
I had left temporal lobe surgery in March 2011.
Before my surgery I mainly had auras & complex partial seizures. I used to have at less 1 aura every couple of weeks but Im sure I had alot more auras then what I noted in my seizure diary.
My aura was in the form of a strange dream which I only ever remembered when I was having a seizure, my head would feel strange sort of heavy or tingly & sometimes my body would feel tingly.
Alot of the time my auras were followed by a complex partial seizure but there were times when I would just have an aura or simple partial by itself.

When I was due to have my surgery all I wished was for was that it would help reduce the auras as they were my main seizure. Since surgery I haven't had any seizures not even an aura so Im pretty happy each day I do go seizure free.

I have just been diagnosed with simple partial seizures and from what I understand it is the medical name for what many people refer to as an aura. I do not have generalized seizures and have never lost consciousness (for which I am very thankful) but they are still classed as seizures.

It can be confusing because there are similar symptoms with migraines that are also called "auras." But if yours are associated with abnormal brainwaves (and given your history, this is likely) they are simple partial seizures. They tend to be referred to as auras when they are followed by more prolonged seizures like complex partials or grand mals.

You should try and keep a diary of your symptoms. I understand not wanting to deal with the return of epilepsy, but if your symptoms are increasing in frequency or duration it's a sign that you should check in with your neurologist.
