Hey guys, i'm new here. My name is Kayleigh, 24 from London. How are you all this eve?

I'm writing because i'm scared and hoping for a little advice. I'm awaiting an appointment with a neurologist for the 28th of this month, the gp's have nothing more they can do til then however my fears are growing with the familiar symptoms that continue to persist.

Ok.. let me break this down into a brief..

It all started when I was sitting with a friend, just chatting. When I started to get very clammy and started sweating alot. I felt so weak and started shivering like I was freezing cold, I felt cold. She gave me some water and insisted that she drove me home.

In the car I spoke but I couldn't put the two pieces of the word together. For example if I wanted to say together, I was stuttering saying to...to..to..weather and getting very confused. Each time I tried to talk I would then just lose all memory of what I was about to say in mid conversation.

From there I swore to her that I hadnt taken any drugs, I remember my vision felt some what 3d. Like the background was now the forefront. I went straight to bed once home.

A few days later in a kebab house, ordering food when I suddenly blacked out and my head kicked/jolted twice. I came around and managed to cross the road back home. Again very tired and slept after.

Since then I had more blackouts, hearing goes distorted, flashing lights - oh the migraines - dont get me started there..

I'm here because lately my already scary symptoms have become more scary and I would like some help on calming this whilst I patiently wait to see a neurologist.

I'm now frequently waking in much pain and aches. Upon awakening I feel confused and very weak, fuzzy headed. I'm very confused and find it a great struggle to move. My limbs feel solid and heavy, stiff. My eyes hurt especially when I move them from side to side and are red and dilated. My tongue feels numb. I then end up with a migraine for two or three days in which I feel dazed and not myself.

My kitten keeps biting me and attacking me in my sleep at 5am each time, I wonder if she is witnessing me fitting at all?

My gp gave me beta blockers for the time being. I'm scared, my symptoms are forming a familiar pattern... My mood will be either euphoric or sudden anger, my cheek will twitch, my eyes dilate. I sweat, my heartrate fastens then slows. I go lightheaded, I focus on my breathing whilst it feels as if i'm fighting falling asleep.

Three eeg's came back normal as well as all the blood tests. My question is how can I calm these symptoms and manage this until I see the neurologist for understanding?

Thank you for your time :) :ridem:

minimousha,

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Oh, I am so sorry you have to go through all that. When first going through this stuff it can be downright scary.

Did your general practitioner test for all the possible alternatives? There are a lot of illnesses that masquerade as seizures, like heart problems, metabolic imbalances, autoimmune disorders, etc.

What you were experiencing could be epilepsy, one of the organic diseases mentioned above, migraines, gluten intolerance, severe allergies, chemical exposure, or something else entirely.

I'm thinking what you are going through sounds a lot like migraines. If your doctor thought so, too, it's why he'd give you beta blockers. One of their uses is to prevent migraines. Hopefully your neurologist will work with your GP to figure it all out, because it could be just about anything.

As for making the symptoms better while you wait. The best prescription is to take good care of yourself. Often times migraines and seizures can have the same triggers. Have you noticed any? Sunlight? Caffeine? Busy visual or audio input? Lack of sleeP? Stress? Skipping meals? Avoiding any of your particular triggers would help. So would getting plenty of sleep, eating on time, and doing everything you can to take good care of yourself.

No worries. Your neurologist will figure it all out. <<<hug>>>

Will you let us know you you are doing?

Has anybody done a spinal tap to rule out meningitis? It does sound like a potential food reaction. What are the ingredients at the kebob's food? Cold hands...I've experienced them. That could be poor circulation or anemia. Really, there are a lot of possibilities for that, too. I believe topamax is commonly used for migraine headaches.

I have some of the same things happen to me when I have a seizure. During most of them I'll black out and not remember anything that went on. My husband says that some of my body will freeze up at times.

Sometimes I may not black out but I'll be talking. I know what I'm saying, or trying to say, but that's not what's coming out of my mouth. I may be sluring my speach or stuttering.

I'll usually get horrible migraines that will last for hours. After I have a seizure I'll fall asleep. Depending on how bad the seizure was I may be increadbally tired for a few days after.

One of my cats usually knows when I've had a seizure and will lay on me until he knows that I'm ok to be up and moving around and he doesn't move unless he's sure of it. This may sound stupid but your cat might know that there is something going on with you that's not right and he's trying to stop it and that's why he's doing what he's doing, that's just my opinion though.

Endless is always full of good advice so try doing what she suggested until you get in to see the neuro. And yes, keep us updated on how things are going on with you!

Thank you all for your replies, all very supportive :)

My greatest worry is that I was on Carbamazepine (Tegretol) as a mood stabilizer, when I recovered and came off them this happened :/

I don't know I guess there is no reason to worry until I see a doc although it is very scary.

My headache from last two days has now gone so i'm catching up with my dancing this morning! hehe

In terms of tests, I have been treated for everything else. My heart is fine, blood pressure fine, blood fine, liver fine. Everything else has been ruled out.

The doctors (2 working together on my case) didn't want to do the refferal without ruling everything else out and when they had ruled it out and recorded 5 'episodes' they made that refferal.

As for triggers - I've noticed it mainly comes in heat, the worst being when it has been 28 degrees out. I've also noticed that light seems to trigger it. My eyes become highly sensitive then within 20 minutes I am walking like a drunk, total out of it. All colours seem brighter. My hearing is like as if each sound is one the exact same level so there's no louder than the other one.

Oh and the kebab - I was awaiting the food, I ate it after.

I think cats have a very interesting way of bonding on other levels, she slept on the other pillows next to me last night, tucked in and waited til I feel asleep. Each time I moved she put her paw gently on me as in reassurance. So sweet :D

Thanks again :) x
