I've had a brain tumor 3 years ago an as a result i have developed epilepsy. I was 1200 epilim chrono and 200 lustrual daily. In january i was weened off the epilim and came off it in may. and a month after i got a seizure and severve headaches and i was admitted to hospital and still getting headaches and seizures. Just wondering did anyone have side efects coming off epilim chrono?

I am having sodium valporate. Research says epilim or sodium valporate causes loss of a ppetite, feeling of vomition, nausea as it has effect on the liver. Moreover, it has affect on pancreas causing abdominal pain. Sleepiness, depression, feeling of solitude are also there. Ofcourse if taken in pregnancy it causes fetal malformations. Sometimes bleeding time increases as it interferes with the process of coagulation. But....................................... this is what the research says, the affects vary from person to person and, ofcourse on the dose rate also. U r just having headaches or something else too......................... do tell! Consult ur neaurologist, may be u will have to start epilim again. God bless u!

Hi bee.27th, welcome!

The seizure is probably due to your being under-medicated since going off the Epilim. After one month, the Epilim would be completely out of your system and you could be vulnerable to having seizures if your threshold is still low. I've tapered off meds on two occasions (under doctor supervision), and in both cases I've had a seizure about a month later. The Epilim could also have been preventing headaches, and without it you may be more vulnerable to those as well. Headache can be a side effect of the Lustral (known as Zoloft in the U.S.), so again, without the Epilim, you could be more vulnerable to those. Unfortunately Lustral interacts with both aspirin and ibuprofen so you are limited in your headache remedies to acetaminophen (Tylenol), if it's okayed by your doctor.

Were you put on another AED either during the transition and/or since having your breakthrough seizures? What does your neurologist say about the seizures and headaches?

How are you feeling now? I'm sorry to hear about your brain tumor -- is that now under control?

Best,
Nakamova

Thanks guy for you replies.
I mixed up lustral with lamital. I was on 100mg twice daily Lamital while coming off epilim chrono and since been in hospital the doctor has increased the lamitical by 150mg twice a day. This has been all under supervision and my neurologist hasn't said what caused it. i think he doesn't want to admit anything. 3 weeks later and i'm still getting headaches. I had an MRI scan while in hospital and everything is clear, they is no sign of any tumor present!:) So hopefully the increased dose of lamitical will kick in?!

There is something called "The Lamictal Headache", which is supposed to be temporary, and go away after you adjust to a new dosage. I'm not sure how severe the headache can get. Hopefully it will pass for you too.

That's good news about the tumor!
