Hey all, it's been awhile since I posted and wanted to update and question. My VA neurologist has me on 150mg 2x day of Lamictal and has said I have Tonic Colonic? I figured with my loss of time and the after effects I was more likely complex partial! Does this sound like he is fishing since all my tests come back "normal"? Does this happen often? He has also decided since I bite my tongue in my sleep all the time that I am having nocturnal seizures too but living alone, there is no one here to verify. I am also going insane on disability while they figure this out and feel they are no closer now than last August. Any insight would be helpful guys.

Have you tried setting up a camera in the room to capture any seizures you might have. To be honest with you, show me a doctor who is not fishing for something and I am not being smart either.

The tongue-biting can be one symptom of a tonic-clonic, so it's possible your doc isn't off-base with that diagnosis. If you can, keep a diary tracking what happens. When you wake up with a bitten tongue, do you also have muscle soreness and backaches? Do you feel unusually dazed or exhausted? Any unexplained injuries, bruises, etc.?

It's a bonus if you can record one happening. Often there's a kind of a "scream" right before a tonic-clonic seizure occurs, so even a sounds recording might provide a clue. And maybe they could schedule an overnight sleep test/EEG/ that would be the most helpful...

Gday

The camera sounds like a great idea , how about a dash cam thing that people put in their cars ? my eeg ( i may have mispronounced that , wires stuck to my head for 5 days ) came back nearly normal with a just little spike , i used to have siezures while asleep and i used to tear sheets also fall out of bed ( may be differant for you though ) i have always had a very busy lifestyle ( own business , long distance trucking ) and it was bloody hard to go from that to nothing , for me i found bugger watching tv all day all it does is depress me wasting my real life watching people living make believe lives on tv , i used to volunteer with a few community things , garden , and walk my dog for ages , have you possibly got a mate or family that would be able to keep a eye on you while you sleep for a while ?

all the best

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. Having a camera to see what is happening at night really might be a huge help for your Dr.

Best of luck to you with disability, it can be so frustrating. I remember getting so angry having to fill out so much paperwork while being in such a fog. It took me a long time but I was able to win my court hearing. So if you have any questions feel free to PM me about that or whatever. Best wishes to you.
