I've been MIA for good reason.
Mainly for the fact the settings on the DBS were too high and needed to be lowered, ASAP. Secondly, within the course of 20 days I visited the hospital twice and each time my stay at the hospital was for a week. All was due to a certain type of seizure that was being caused from the DBS settings.
On top of the DBS needing to be reset, the battery in my VNS was running low faster than anticipated. So my third odd seizure brought on the following;
1) surgery to change out the VNS battery
2) changing of the DBS during post-op
3) resetting the VNS during post-op then checking it the following morning for any tweaking
I was released from the hospital as of yesterday. The surgeon who took care of me did a fantastic job with everything as he knew exactly what I needed. I spoke out my feelings on the issue regarding the DBS and it's activity so he could see my concerns which made him understand my point of view and brought him to lower the settings after the VNS surgery while I was in post-op.
I now feel much better with the particular settings that have been chosen to be used as they are a lot lighter. I am no longer shaking like I was and the odd seizure is no longer occurring.
The only issue I am dealing with at this time is going through recovery from the VNS surgery itself which will take me a few days yet. I'm having headaches still which is normal but I do have something to handle them. Otherwise, I think issues are being resolved under the best medical care in the Mid West.
Forgive me for not saying a lot however I wanted to give everyone an update once my strength would allow me to. Thanks for your patience. By the way, there is a brief update on my epilepsy blog; the link is in my signature.
