My husband and I were watching a show last night that had someone going out talking to people on the street asking them questions about FDR (president Franklin Delano Roosevelt). The people that they were talking to were mostly in their 20's.

Some of the questions asked:

How did you feel when FDR died? Answer - "I was really upset about it"
Did you follow FDR on twitter? Answer - "Yes, all the time"
What did you think about his Face Book page? Answer - "It was great, I got on there a lot. I was friends with him too"
Did you see him in these movies? Recently made comedy ones. Answer - "Yes, he was great in them. I couldn't believe how funny he was!"

There were several other questions too along the same line, but no one knew that he had died almost 70 years ago. Isn't this pathetic?

Unfortunately, the United States of America has some very dumb citizens. Did you know that some people don't know how many states are in the United States?
I used to work in the school system and what our children don't know would really shock many.

I could of cared less about FDR

How sad.....

It seems to me like so many U.S. citizens have that pathetic attitude about American history now. How sad. :( What's even more sad is that our kids are missing out on our history. Very, very sad.

Well, this is science, not American history and is not the same study. ^
Even so, very sad.

Without Rooseveldt there would be no teddy bears

Here is the actually history of the teddy bear;

http://www.bearhollow.net/teddy_roosevelt.htm

The story of a president who saved a bear cub's life has a special place in American folklore and inspired the creation of teddy bear plush toys."

"The teddy bear's story begins in November 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt was hunting in Mississippi. After an unsuccessful day, the hunting party brought a small bear cub to the camp for the president to shoot. He refused because the animal did not have a chance to defend itself."

"Clifford K. Berryman, cartoonist for The Washington Post at the time, sketched the incident and captured the public's imagination as well as that of American toymakers. Soon the country was flooded with teddy bears."

"The original teddy bear, from 1903, was given to the Smithsonian by Teddy Roosevelt's grandson, Kermit. Today that bear is in the collections of our National Museum of American History."

I can't believe this!!!! I guess they probably don't know about the United States flag and what the stars and stripes stand for either!

Do you know if Lincoln is on Face Book? I'd love to know what he's been up to all these years. I'd also like to see some current pictures of him too, all I can seem to find are black and white or paintings.

There are a ton of people don't know who the current vice president is.

I do agree with Cint on this on. There's a big difference between science and American history. Science is a bit more difficult to understand because it is due to a lot of trial and error. Something in science may be right now but in a few years, due to further testing, they might find out that could have been wrong. - Just my opinion.

A few things on that web site I didn't know. But at least I do know that the Earth orbits the sun and not the other way around!

I believe that most people think that how the earth was made and how people were too is due to their religion, not science. - Again this is just my opinion though.

American history is going to be the same forever. It's not going to change that Kennedy what shot, the Titanic sank, the Hindenburg exploded and the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.

I figured with the talk about Nazi and British ships, geography and flags, a bit about American general knowledge fit the topic. Sorry if I spoke out of turn.

I dont know who the current American Vice President is but I assume I can be forgiven since I'm Aussie :pfft:.

CQ, I think us foreigners tend to know about what's going on in the US because it's a superpower and often in the news, in films, in the press and so on.

Valerid, did you kow the American flag was planted on Mars (according to Sheila Jackson Lee, congresswoman representing the 18th District of Texas, downtown Houston? It's hard to expect plain old citizens to know this stuff if our elected officials are clueless.
