I advise to most assuredly get a second opinion, and even a third. . I have had the same neurologist for many years and she was recommended I thought she was fine. All the years seeing her and going on her advisement I continued having seizures, although controlled. On a hunch I decided to see a second...ok, not much better. On another hunch I decided to see a third. He has been the biggest difference on his advisement I have been greatly improved.

You said it! Based on experiences of CWE members, many neurologists aren't trained epileptologists, haven't kept up with developments in treatment and prevention, and don't have the time or inclination to really listen to their patients. There are some gems out there of course, but it can take persistence and energy to find them.

Since I go to a hospital to their neurology office, I see two new neurologist each time I go.
Kinda strange and hard to get used to. But I get a new opinion or suggestion each time I go LOL
They all say I have complex partials of course, and that they come from the left side of my brain.
They are watching my meds carefully and they review my seizure journal every time I go.

Kinda strange to me- I would rather have the same person, but then its kinda neat at the same time to speak with a new neuro or two each time I go.
They each consult the head neuro before doing anything with me.

For a Comprehensive list of GOOD Neurologists…Epileptologists…Neurosurgeons…and Pediatric Doctors go to http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com...ileptologists-neurosurgeons-pediatric-d-7691/

The information was compiled by forum members of www.epilepsyfoundation.org/efforums who have had positive experiences with docs over the years. This list is based on personal recommendations and, of course is purely subjective. But I thought it might be helpful for anyone looking for a good Neurologist…Epileptologist…Neurosurgeon…or Pediatric Doctor.

The list is organized alphabetically by state...

Hi everyone,

Given the opportunity I would have as many docs as possible.
I can't begin to tell you how many bad experiences I have had with docs
of all walks. Words not taken at face value/no time /no call backs/contradictments in information.

I am 33 right now, have been seeing docs frequently and consistently since
about 20 years old. Many different docs on the account of having moved approx. 25 times till present day. Each doctor seems to completely disagree with one another, leaving you with no more knowledge than before you went to see them in the first place.

research, research, research!till your eyes pop out of your head.I do not enjoy
being a research guinnea pig until the doc finds out what he thinks is best for my system.I'm sure you guys dont either.

I realize that most would say I am not to intelligent for overiding doctors orders but so far my situation is such that I quite literally would be dead
had I not trusted my instincts and followed orders instead.

In the words of the only good doctor I have ever had"only you know your body,no one else does including doctors. For the most part you have to request what you need and not ask permission. It is not about their comfort level,it is about yours. They work for you,we dont work for them.

In conclusion, experience has told me to grab those horns
and try my best to take charge of my own health.

So yes, second, third, fourth opinion---more the marrier. It can be a long road with one doc.

(having said this I am not encouraging people to ignore their doc
just use your best judgment to stay alive well.)
