I think we just fun confusing overseas tourists which is why we do things differently :pfft:

I actually saw something about this on a travel show a couple of weeks ago.:) I forget the details, but it apparently has to do with the British following jousting rules of riding on the left side of the middle line, leaving the right arm free to do the jousting. I'm not kidding :D. Maybe this travel show got it wrong, but there are stranger reasons for doing things than this. Anyway, the US and mainland Europe decided to do it the other way basically to thumb their noses at the UK. Of course New Zealand and Australia and most other British Commonwealth countries do as the Brits do.

In Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) in the South Pacific where my mom used to live, they used to drive on the right from the left side of the car even though they are a Commonwealth country. But a couple of years ago, they switched to the British way. I think it had to do with the strong ties between them and New Zealand and Australia. But apparently, it was a bit scary for a while until people got used to the change:eek:

That is a bad azz link, I learned a lot! :)

Thanks daydreamer.

I have always wondered that myself. I was born in Germany, where they drive on the same side as those in the U.S.(I am American by birth). But I lived in London(where they drive on the opposite side of the road) for two years, starting when I was 9yrs.-old. It made no sense to me, why England, Wales n' Scotland drove on the left, while the rest of Europe drove on the right. Even the Japanese drive on the left side of the road.
