Hello all,

I'm new to the Forum. My son had two seizures last week. So far the doctors have not diagnosed him with epilepsy but have put him on medication. Since my son plays high school football and wanted to continue in college. I googled football+epilepsy and Jason Snelling's name came up. I welcome comments from every one but would like to hear from Jason Snelling because of his first hand experience in coping with epilepsy and playing football.

Thank you.

Welcome kada145

What medication have the doctors put your son on? has he had any seizures since?

I'm sorry to tell you that Jason Snelling is not a member here (unless he's under some other name & doesn't want to be identified). There are still others with lots of experience that should be of great use to you & your son

His two seizures were October 28, 2010. He has not had any since that date. He is on Keppra.

Many people have been helped by keppra. It is however known for the possibility of numerous side-effects. Have you seen any changes in your sons behaviour since he started taking keppra?

Hi kada145 --

You could try e-mailing Jason Snelling directly, through his website:

Here's an article you might be interested in, about another NFL player with epilepsy, named Samari Rolle:

If your son hasn't officially been diagnosed with epilepsy, his seizures may be a one-time event, and sports such as college football may well be open to him. Was there any known primary or secondary trigger or his seizures? Did he have a head injury? Was he fatigued or suffering from an infection or fever? That may make a difference.

My son has an appointment with the neurologist tomorrow. He had not had a head injury but was tired before he went to sleep.

There are

other NFL football players, and college players out there as well with E. Tiki Barber, who is now a commentator/news broadcaster comes to mind. Although his was more of a childhood/febrile seizure type, he & his twin both had it--and now his son has it as well.
