hi, can someone tell me the difference? I have seen this in another thread and didn't want to :hj:

Hope I've posted this in the right place.

Hi ambam --

Essentially an epileptologist is a neurologist with a subspecialty in epilepsy.

HOWEVER, if a neurologist explicitly works in an epilepsy hospital center, or is affiliated with one, then he/she might not bother to call themselves and epileptologist. My neurologist specializes in epilepsy, but doesn't call herself an epileptologist, because she's part of the epilepsy department at a Boston hospital.

I agree with Nakamova. An epi is a seizure specialist. If someone is either having a hard time getting a correct diagnosis, is having trouble with their medications, or is a candidate for surgery, I'd see an epi. Otherwise, a really good neurologist is usually enough.
