Good morning new friends,

I was diagnosed nocturnal tonic clonic seizure in early March of 2017. For quite a few months prior to diagnosis already I have found found asleep to be uncomfortable, sometimes almost painful. The pain is in my head and I could compare it to a very brief migraine, only last a few moments. I am wondering if any of you have nocturnal tominc clonic seizures and if you do is this something you also experience?

Happy Easter!

I do get some pain when put head on pillow as you say like mini migraine but I thinking more of anatomical thing neck blood supply to brain, but that only personal thing of my thinking..IF I put that on list for doc I doubt he listen to me..It do not happen all the time and passes off after short time

Hi Patricia --

Are you taking an anti-seizure medications yet? If so, has it helped? If not, or if you're not at a therapeutic dose yet, the head pain might go away once you're at the right med & dose.

In the meantime, you might consider taking a magnesium supplement about an hour or so before you go to bed (assuming it's not contraindicated). Mg helps some folks with migraines, other tension-related disorders, and sleep, so there's a chance it might bring you relief.

If the head pain increases in duration or intensity, definitely let your neuro know.

Hi Patricia,
I sometimes get headaches when I go to bed but most of the time they happen when I wake up in the morning. Before I started having seizures I was having migraine headaches.
You may want to try the cold water therapy, take your temperature 3 times a day at the same time and anytime you start to get a headache or seizure. Keep track of all of that then start putting a cold washcloth on your face and the back of your neck 3 times a day and anytime you start to get a headache or get a warning you are going to have a seizure. By doing this you will calm down the neurons in the brain which in turn stops the headaches and seizures. I have been in a medical study with this treatment and it has help stop the seizures and headaches a lot. Keep note if you get the headaches when there's a low pressure in the weather because that can sometimes cause seizures and headaches do to the heaviness of the air which in turn messes up the hormones in the body. I wish you only the best of luck and May God Bless You! Happy Easter!

Hi,

I have been on anti-seizure meds for about 5 yrs to treat my other condition (Trigeminal Neuralgia). When I was diagnosed with E in early March my med was increased. I haven't had any more seizures since the increase but the discomfort upon falling asleep continues. I am taking mg already but take it in the am as it works best with other meds I take.

Hey patricia,

Have you experimented with using either heat or cold (like a warm or cool washcloth) on your neck before falling asleep? Or trying different pillows or sleep angles?

One more recommendation would be a b12 and/or omega 3 supplement (assuming it's not contraindicated). Some have reported that this helps alleviate or stop the "brain zaps".

I had cold wet towel on me when got it this week.proberly cold wet cloth is about best thing.Certainly Do effect temperature as porky says It Do effect temperature i going take temperature next attack but most of time feel to ill get up

My situation is a bit complicated due to the Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am never sure if the sensations are due to seizures, or remnants from the neurosurgery. Do you have any idea what the 'brain zaps' are or if they are tied to the Nocturnal Tonic Clonic seizures? I am going to try and cool compress on my neck when falling asleep. Thanks for your suggestions.
