The ice fog has lifted so that means it is going to snow for the next couple of days then go back to being below 0 again.
Living in Alaska can be a challenge at the best of times but when you have epilepsy and choose not to drive it can be interesting.
I ride a fat tire bike with studs to work.
Why live someplace that is dark and cold for months and months?
Well we also get really long summers and beautiful country side.
The people are really interesting and life is what you make it.
I started having what we called in those days gran mal seizures when I was 13 and have had mixed results with different drugs over the years since I then.
It wasn't until a few years ago that a neurologist made me do a week long EEG that we discovered I had minor focal seizures as well.
I had been having them all along probably since I was a baby and didn't realize it, just learned to cope with it.
I'm currently under good control with topiramate.
I have two beautiful daughters and work for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
I write about music, vinyl, and life.

Howdy redravin! welcome to CWE!

I have cousins from Anchorage, but never made it there myself. From what I hear it is indeed beautiful.

Hi redravin, I visited Anchorage on a summer vacation when I was 14. I had just gotten a "real" camera as a gift and took TONS of pictures. It was a wonderful trip. I give you a lot of credit for toughing out the weather, and I can see how it would be worth it.

Hi redravin! Welcome to the bunch. You should find some good support and comradery here, so jump right in! Anchorage sounds lovely (I'm used to the cold, being a Scot). :-)

Hi redravin,

Welcome to CWE! I have a good friend that lives in Fairbanks, Alaska. I would come up and visit in the summer but when it comes to winter I don't think I would care for it to much.
I've had epilepsy for 45 yrs. now I have both absence and complex partial seizures. One thing my Dr. started me on this past summer that has done wonders controlling my seizures in the medical marijuana (CBD). Just like you I've tried many different seizure meds but it wasn't until I had a DNA test done that I found out I was drug resistant to all seizure meds out on the market. Another thing that helps reduce my seizures is taking vitamin B12 once a day and putting coconut oil on my skin once a day. The coconut oil builds up ketones in my body which in turn reduces my seizures. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue
