Hi, I'm a 27 year old guy from Costa Rica who hasn't been officially diagnosed with epilepsy yet, but there's definitely something going on with me.

I've had these feelings of deja vu, weird smell and like a blood pressure drop since I was 16. At first I found them weird but I always associated all the symptoms with the initial Deja Vu, since it was the first indication that something was happening. It only happened around 2-3 a year and there were years when it didn't happen at all. So I never worried to much.

This February I had a deja vu at work and for the first time ever, someone else saw me while I was experiencing it. He has a cousin with epilepsy and he said that what he saw might've been something like that. Apparently my right arm went stiff for a few seconds.

After that I went to a neurologist and he took a CT Scan and an electroencephalogram, but he said he found nothing out of the ordinary. He still gave me medication (Epival-R) for me to take for 6 months, documenting every other seizure I had. Since then I had a couple deja vu, but I managed to anticipate it and if I stopped thinking about it, the rest of the symptoms would disappear.

However, last Saturday (at 1 am) I was playing an online game with a few friends and I had my first seizure with convulsions. According to my friends on Skype, I was making weird noises for a few minutes and then I was out for about 15 more minutes.

When I woke up I was disoriented and weak, I managed to open the door, but then I collapsed again and started vomiting. Since then I've been eating little and feeling sore muscles.

I'm sorry if I described my whole life experience, but I wanted to share it with other people on the same boat as me. What scares me the most is seeing that my condition is escalating and I'm afraid I won't be able to lead the same life as before (driving, walking, doing basically anything) without being afraid of having a seizure.

I have a doctor's appointment in the evening so we'll see how it goes.

Hi Solrob,
Welcome to CWE.
Good luck at the doctors today.

I can relate to the deja vu, weird smells, and blood pressure fluctuations. I have TLE (Temporal Lobe Epilepsy) but I only have partial seizures, no generalized seizures like tonic clonic's.

My MRI's all came back normal and my first few EEG's also came back normal, since I had no seizures while hooked up to the EEG this was expected.

When I had a 72 hour ambulatory EEG it finally showed some seizure activity.

Yes, epilepsy can bring some serious changes into your life, but we adapt as best as we can.

Hi Solrob,

I have the deja vu, smell odd odors, and have temporal lobe epilepsy. I have both absence and complex partial seizures. A few yrs. ago I found out that bright colors and video games triggered seizures for me because of the bright flashing lights on the games and certain colors were triggering seizures this is known as being photosensitive. This may have caused the seizure you had. Epilepsy has changed my life but I still work full time and I don't let my epilepsy get to me or stop me from doing what I need to do. There are many famous people in the world who have or had epilepsy. Don't let it stop you. I wish you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue
