Hi, im new on here, and this is the first time I've ever posted anything like this,

our baby daughter has had epilepsy from birth, she's now 10 months old and we have had a very difficult time trying to get her seizures under control, we have eventually seen some success on Keppra ( she was having up to 4 seizures a day before ) and now is having one every few days, it seems so much better. She seems to be delayed a little, isnt sitting up unaided etc and I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and could tell me how likely it is that she will walk within a reasonably normal time scale and also how likely it is for her to grow out of focal seizures. We feel very alone in terms of hospitals etc and she is seen every few months and thats about it really.

Welcom Jennilee

I"m not a parent so I haven't had any experience with epileptic children except myself (I"m still a kid at heart) but I do know that everyone is unique & progresses differently at their own pace. If she is developing slower I'd watch for problems other than epilepsy as well.

My personal advice would be to pay close attention to her & be aware of what is & isn't normal for someone your daughters age. Also research the medications that she is prescribed so that you can know what side-effects she might be experiencing. Eveyrone has different side-effects on different medications but at least you'll know what ones to be watching for as she is too young to tell you. I know keppras side-effects are vertigo, fatigue, decreased memory & focus amongst many others. That might be what is challenging her. I know when I was an adult on Keppra I could barely walk & was constantly bumping into things. http://epilepsy.emedtv.com/keppra/keppra-side-effects.html

Also I would recommend you check out the nursery here http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f42/. There are lots of parents here who can be of great help. Meanwhile look around the rest of the site & see what else here might help. The library is a great place to search for information as well.

Once more, welcome.
