Since in Canada their was a shortage of primidone, I am wondering if anyone who takes it was able to get their prescription filled as of December 31st when they said there would be some. Just wondering.

I don't take primadone so I don't know. But I did notice that it's not on the drug shortage list in the United States.

Nor was it a past shortage that is now resolved.

Any chance you can get your drugs from the United States? I suppose it would take a prescription from a U.S. doctor. There are some fly-by-night pharmacies where you can have a 5 minute phone appointment with a doctor, get the prescription, and have the meds sent to you. Risky choice, not recommended.

Maybe larger mail order pharmacies in Canada? Some of them skip the wholesaler and order direct from the manufacturer. They may have the drug when others don't.

Hope you find it soon, way before you run out.

Thanks for the info from the USA. I am glad that it is not a problem to get in the USA. I do have enough for now.

Is there anyone in Canada who has been able to get their promidone prescripton refilled as of December 31st due to the shortage in Ontario? I would appreaciate knowing before I go to see the neurologist in a week or two, if possible. Apparantly 1/3 of the neurologists patients who took the time to rate him do not like him - YIKES! I do want to get my test results, though.

Hi lavatera, I'm also in Ontario but am not on Primidone anymore so I don't know about any shortage. This website is that of a pharmacist from Toronto who may be able to help you if you contact him (e-mail is on the right). IMO There's a lot of good articles there too. http://sciencebasedpharmacy.wordpress.com/

Also, I never worry too much about what a rating site says. I read them but you have to remember that unhappy people are more likely to rate someone to let off steam and also (for example) that what one person might consider "professional" someone else might consider "cold or unfriendly".

Thank you for your reply.

If you do not mind, would you please tell me what to watch for according to your experience, if they wean me off of primidone? You can pm me if you like.

Thank you so much,

I'm sure everyones experience is different coming off of any med but when I was taken off of Primidone I was on 3 medications at the same time & was taken off of the Primidone & Depakene at the same time.

I didn't see any changes in mood or any sort of withdrawal symptoms. Even my seizures stayed the same but if I were you I'd watch to see if my seizures change or increase.
