Has anyone heard of these symptoms?

My identical twin sister & I starting having these epsidoes in our twenties, her at about age 21 & me at age 29. We'd had a funny feeling, maybe of dejavu, a little nausea and would feel ok after a few minutes. I could be in the middle of a conversation and you'd never know I was having this. 13 years ago my sisters symptoms worsened and about 1 year ago mine did. We both have episodes at night where we wake up early in the sleep cycle & are so disoriented we don't know who or where we are. Often with nausea & somewhat of a headache. We may have much milder epsiodes over the 24 hours but not always. After about a day or so we get hit with anxiety & depression for about a week to 8 days that can be pretty bad. I think it's important to note that neither of us have any history of anxiety or depression, this only occurs after an episode, and will evaporate as quickly as it comes on. We have these episodes maybe 8-10 times a year. The emotional part is the hardest. We've both had dozens of tests, all with normal results. I went to the Cleveland Clinic and was referred to a headache specialist. She was absolutely convinced this was not a seizure and likely not a migraine issue. She felt it was a sleep disorder. I was then referred to their center for sleep disorders and had a sleep study done (no results yet). The doctors I spoke to seem to have never heard of this which was pretty frustrating. We're 52 years old and from what I've read it is usual to have depression come on so quickly & vanish, especially with no prior history. Does anyone else have symptoms like this? Were you ever diagnosed with anything definate? I need to know what I'm dealing with! Both my doctor & the neurologist I've been seeing seem to think it's a migraine issue.
Thank you.

Hi Nina, welcome to CWE!

The deja vu and nausea could well be migraine or seizure-related. Not sure about the anxiety/depression -- those things can be seizure-related but the intermittent week-long bouts seems unusual. Here's a long-shot -- have either of you seen an endocrinologist to have your thyroid and/or other hormones tested? They might be playing a role, or making seizure or migraine symptoms worse.

Best,
Nakamova

I just asked the doctor to check my thyroid and should hear the results next week. I've had the general test done (which was normal) but have heard that might not give an accurate picture. My mother had thyroid trouble so I agree it's worth looking into. Thanks for your response.
