Hello there

I am new to this site but unfortunately not new to epilepsy. Was diagnosed when I was 16 in my late 20 now. I suffered an stll suffer with tonic clonic seizures. At 16 I was put on the drug Lamictal this unfortunately failed to work and dose was increased. I continued to have tonic clonic every six months for few year's once again lamictal was increased got six years seizure free thought outgrown it however in summer 13 had random one once again increase drug got another three year's then at start if this year had another one. Lamictal causes me to suffer from insomnia. On Tuesday just gone my neuro prescribed me Tegretol in addition to the Lamictal. Hopefully after so long they have it right this time

Welcome to CWE! Everyone here has been a great help to me and I've learned a lot. I've been on both of the meds you are taking for my absence and complex partial seizures but the lamictal caused a rash. I was on tegretol for yrs. and it worked great but them I broke out with a rash from that drug also. I will tell you don't eat any grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while on tegretol because the enzymes in the fruit can mess up the drug and cause problems. Also if you ever need to go on a antibiotic be sure to let your Dr. know that you are taking tegretol because some antibiotics can make the drug toxic. That's what happened to me a few yrs. ago and I ended up in the emergency room.
One thing my Dr. has put me on that has been a big help is the medical marijuana (CBD oil). I just spray it into my mouth twice a day and last yr. I had the least amount of seizures/ I wish you only the best and May God Bless You!

I've just struggled with it so much lately. I heard that grapefruit can have a bad effect on some drugs I think it like overdosing on the drug which can be fatal. I didn't know that bout Tegretol... so thanks..I'm sorry to hear you had bad reaction to both the drugs. Only side effect I have on lamictal is a bit of insomnia however it ain't severe.
