Hi. I am new to this forum and I would like to tell you about my experience in case someone has a similar one and could relate to me.
I woke up with a headache and went back to sleep. I woke up in ICU 5 days later. It seems that my taking Coumodin and Aspirin at the same time caused me to bleed in my head. I was taking these meds cause I have Congestive Heart Failure and was also in A-Fib. Luckily my sister came over and found me sleeping on my bed. She prepared dinner and when she came to wake me up, I wouldn't. She then called 911. I was sent to CPMC in San Francisco. I guess the doctors thought that I was a goner. I come from a family of 10, with me being the youngest at 44 years old. I had friends and family from all over the country (Hawaii, New York, Seattle, Chicago, etc.) come and visit me while I was still in my coma. The doctors did a Craniotomy on me twice and told my family after the second one that it didn't look good and that they wouldn't go back in a 3rd time. They also told my family that there were some tough decisions coming. They even had the priest come in and give me my last rites. Everyone was pretty sure that that was it.
However on the 5th day, I woke up. I wasn't very strong yet I was very alert. I could tell the time and recognize everyone. After 2 weeks I was released from the hospital. In the first month after being released I suffered 4 or 5 focal seizures in which my speech was slurred and the wrong words were coming out of my mouth. I would say San Francisco when I meant to say her. The last seizure I had was my right hand going weak.
It is now 43 days since my last seizure and 80 days since this happened and I feel 100%. My doctors have cleared me to fly and are letting me drive in 3 weeks. This is good cause my 25th high school reunion is in July and I was the class president. It's amazing that I have nothing wrong with me.
I'm hoping that this may brighten someone's day or at the least give them hope in getting better.
