Hello,
I do not suffer from epilepsy but my friend - sometimes boyfriend suffers. I have been with him during grand mal seizures where I had to take him to the hospital and also have seen him suffer from all the side effects such as anxiety, depression, memory loss and am just looking to learn more and have a place of support as I would like to help him and understand better what he goes through.

You will find lots of information here and a great support system, at least I have.

Its nice that you want to learn more about whats going on so that you can better support your friend in whats going on. I know there are days where I am completely lost and the friends here help guide me back to the path.

Nice to meet you!

As Kaitybugsmom said it's great to find someone who wants to be there and help their friend. I know that I too have lost alot of friends because of my epilepsy.

The guy I was dating when I had my first seizure didn't want to deal with me and everything that came along with me then, so he just sort of faded out of my life. I don't think he had the guts to break up with me so he just stopped calling and coming over.

When I was dating my now husband, I had my first seizure infront of him about a month into the relationship. I ended up in the ER and my whole family thought - There goes another one.

But now 9 years, and a ton of seizures later, he's still here. He tells me that he's so scared when I have a seizure that "this is going to be the one I don't come out of, and I'm gone". I have very bad memory loss too and he's always afraid that one of these day's I'm not going to know who he is either.

I've never seen someone have a seizure but it has to be hard to watch. I think he realizes more of the side effects that come along with the epilepsy and meds than I do.

You'll find alot of help and answers on here, I know I have. And keep supporting him, that's something that a REAL FRIEND does!
