Hi, I'm Jacquie
When I was a child there were a lot of things that I couldn't do - go on swings, roundabouts, roll down hills etc but it was never really questioned why - it was just accepted in the late 1940's that was just how it was!!
In 1970 I had a nasty car accident and to cut a long story short after experiencing blackouts I was diagnosed as epileptic and prescribed tegretol and tofranol. As time went on these drugs were gradually reduced and in time I was off them completely with no recurrence of symptoms.
However last year it all kicked off again - after a period of extreme stress, I had a MRI and EEG which both came back abnormal, I was found to have a skull base tumour and the EEG showed I was having small seizures - went on to have a sleep deprivation EEG but although still abnormal was unable to provoke a full seizure. The tumour was biopsied and was found to be benign (concern was due to my previously having breast cancer) however inoperable due to it's location. I have been prescribed Gabapentin but recently my neurologist changed my prescription to Topomax - the side effects were absolutely horrendous for me and I have gone back to the Gabapentin. I am now waiting further investigation with a new neurologist.
