Hello all,

I am newly diagnosed with temporal lobe seizures. So far, partial simple seizures. My symptoms were (are) a weird chemical or burning rubber smell, nausea and tingling in my face, usually the right side. Also, occasional slurred speech or hard time finding a word. MRI normal. No lesions. They were initially concerned with MS and a multitude of viral diseases as well as stroke and tumor. Neuro has started me on Topamax. He is not sure what is causing the seizures at this time.

I am 50 years old and have probably had these symptoms for about 6 years. During any given day, I may experience these sensations up to 5 or 6 times a day. Very fatiguing.

Hi jonw, welcome to CWE!

It can be tough to have epilepsy come out of nowhere, with no explanation, no "cause". That definitely seems to be one of the more difficult aspects of seizure disorders. I hope the Topomax brings you some relief.

Hi Jon - welcome
the shock of your life turning upside down is very difficult to deal with.
My daughters did at the age of 14. However, we have worked to improve her overall health, and finally she can claim to be med free for 3 yrs, and seizure free for 10 months.
It can happen. Everyone has a seizure threshold. Working on ways to raise your threshold to what it was 6 yrs ago would be my focus.
