Hello, everyone. My name is Laura and I just found this web site while researching epilepsy. I was diagnosed at age 17 after a head injury that led to two seizures within a month and have since then experienced a myriad of emotions regarding my condition. For a long time I was in denial on top of disregarding medication and leading an unhealthy lifestyle with caused many seizures, one of which ended up with a broken jaw, missing teeth, stitches, etc. and two subsequent surgeries to fix everything.

It was at this point I began to take it seriously and stop living selfishly. I am ashamed I took not only my life for granted but also the lives of others because I endangered them by doing things like driving but it is all in the past and there's nothing that can be done about it other than learn from it all.

At this point I have a wonderful family of my own including a great husband and our young son of four months. I am very fortunate that my epilepsy is now under control and I haven't had more than one seizure in a little over two years. I look forward to being here and sharing with other people who know how I feel as most people don't. Thanks for having me!

Hi Laura, welcome to CWE!

It takes time to come to terms with an epilepsy diagnosis -- often we have to go through all the stages (anger, denial, etc.) before getting to the acceptance part, and even then it's not always easy. I'm glad you've figured out what works for you. And congrats on being seizure-free!

Best,
Nakamova
