I was surfing the internet looking up side effects of Keppra when I came across this site. I just moved to Iowa from Washington and thought that it may be a good way to meet people. I am married and 30 years old. We have no kids at this point but we have a wonderful dog named Chevy! I have managed my seizures with medications for the past nine years but am starting to get frustrated with the side effects. I do want to start trying to have a family but first want to make sure that my meds are the safest drugs that I can be on. I have tried other meds before with awful side effects and so far Keppra has been the best choice.....so do I just live with fatique, depression, headaches and heart palpitations or do I risk trying something else?? That is where I am now. I meet with a new neurologist in Aug but would like to have as much information as I can before I meet with him. I think that it is wonderful that sites like this exist and I look forward talking with people.

I figure there is not one of the E meds that does not come with side effects. My Son uses Valpro and we have helped combat a lot of the med side affects using additional alternatives in conjunction with the meds...

Lots of Keppra users on this site so the CWE crew will be in soon to give you lots of input :)

Very warm welcome to CWE

I just started Keppra two days ago :)

I was told to avoid getting pregnant while on it, though - both doctors made it sound scary (we plan to have more children, I have 3 girls now).

Other than that, I don't know much else about it!

Wow ok thanks for the information. I was told that it was "one of the safest" so that is good to know that your docs think otherwise. What were you on when you were pregnant with your kids and if you don't mind me asking, how did they react to the med? Congratulations on your three girls! I hope to have kids as soon:) What made you switch to keppra?

I wasn't on anything when I had my other kids, so I am really no help there. But I definitely had two different neuro's tell me to be on birth control and to not get pregnant while on it... so I would definitely double check!

This is the first time I've been on any anti-seize meds in the 15 years I've had them... so I'm not much help in that department!

A Big Welcome to You!

Welcome Heatherm!

My 16 year old daughter began keppra about a month ago. Initially she was very moody. She is taking B2, B6 and Magnesium to help. Her neuro recommended Keppra because it can be taken over the long term.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Welcome to CWE! As Chaz said there are lots of Keppra users on this site. I am so glad you have found CWE - it has been a great place for me to come and learn how to best help my daughter. I am sure you'll find this is a great place!

Thanks everyone for the info! I will talk to my new neurologist about replacing the Wellbutrin with a b6 b12 and magnesium mix!

I have been on Keppra for a little over a month (recently upped dosage from 1000mg/day to 2000 mg/day). Other than some sleepiness the first few days I have not really noticed any side effects from it. Everyone reacts differently though.
