Hi everyone!
I first posted on here a few months back, but didn't introduce myself.
I'm Rachel, diagnosed with JME at 13 (now 25).
I want to meet people with epilepsy as I don't actually have any friends who suffer from it!

I'm currently suffering from severe panic attacks every day due to worry about having a seizure.
If anyone else suffers, please get in touch. I'd love to know if you have any coping techniques, or just want to talk.

:)

Hello Rachel!
My name is Mary, I'm 25 as well and I was diagnosed with Epilepsy about a year ago. I don't have any other friends who suffer from Epilepsy and I can understand how difficult it is to have no friends who understand or can relate. When I reached the three months without a seizure mark I was having daily panic attacks because I was afraid of having another one. It's difficult to say will work for you from what worked for me. I've tried yoga and a couple other meditation techniques, but I've finally figured out that running is a great way to de-stress. Good luck!

Hello Mary!
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I'm only just realising how difficult it is having no one to relate to.
I do have a very supportive boyfriend and my mum has been great at helping too.
It's strange because I'm not actually stressed about anything at the moment, but I think I'm getting them because of a traumatic event....last time I had a seizure I felt it start and was able to cry out to my boyfriend before I passed out. That has never happened before, I'd always be asleep. That experience has definitely scarred me :(
I may try a run tonight...have been able to sleep the past two nights so going for a third tonight.
Thanks for your support xx

Hi Almond Hen --

Is there a chance the panic attacks are actually seizures? The two can have very similar symptoms (dizziness, feeling of dread, nausea, increased heart rate, etc...)

I hope you can find a way to de-stress. I've found that "preventive" relaxation helps -- scheduling a few brief meditation breaks throughout the day. And by meditation, I just mean sitting or lying down, closing your eyes, and just focusing on your breathing for 5 to 10 minutes. Relaxing music/sounds can help too.
