Help Does any one KNow about Eye Epilepsy in Adults

Hello All,

I am new to your community and am having a hard time understanding some thing that showed up on my EEG from Neruo. ( I am not sure if this is a good neuro)
A few weeks ago i had a EEG done, a audiology test and a Visual Evoked Response test and a brain doppler ( have not gotten results back on doppler)

So i went to a Neruo because i have had some left side numness and tingling, a full left ear, tinnitus and a loud shot gun sound in my head at night and i wake up about average 7 times a night to change clothes due to severe night sweats, and I have had left side face numbness and tingles, and my left eye seems to have a huge pressure behind it and pain and my eye seems to go crazy jerks and twitches, and I have a blasted head ache that i have had for 4 months with no comfort from meds.

SO i have report back from Neuro on 3 of the test, EEG, VEP and the ABR test, all say that they are unsatisfactory but normal, How is that? But my EEG says it is unsatisfactory because i was drowsy during the whole awake test and i was not since i was talking to the tech.
On the EEG report is said i have a Mild Bilateral Symmetric Occipital driving.

I have done my goodle search and it says this is some type of seizure disorder of the eye. Does any one know what this is or does any one elese been diagnosed with it? I read it is found in children and i am a 36 year old woman.

I am so fustrated with this Neuro guy , and i have to wait 2 week to get a answer of all the test. I do not want him to tell me all is normal if this is a serious issue and i need to be refered to a diffrent neuro doc.

Please help. I feel so alone and i feel as if i am going crazy not know what this is. As i have the jerky eye and preasure in eye and can not seem to get a straight answer. So i rather go to seek answers and help from peoplewho know.

Welcome to CWE

You have come to the right place for info and support, everyone is very friendly here. It is not very nice to get symptoms and not be able to get the answers you require, it can get very frustrating.

I occasionly get eye twitching/fluttering, I have never fully associated it with my seizures, but it is not out of the question. The problem is when you have had seizures for most of your life, you don't know what is normal and whether seizure free people get these things.

I can half relate to the pressure on the eye, but normally this happens to me when I have had a lot of absence seizures (20 second black outs), but I guess that it must be possible for other types of seizures to cause this too. I don't get headaches, I get a feeling in my head like a strain rather then an ache.

Maybe some of the others on the forum can relate to this better then myself. Feel free to check out the site, it has become my second home.

Thank you so much for replying. I do not think i know what absent siezures are. as i am new to this. I do tend to space out in my mind and just drift off to a thought about some thing and then i come back to real world and think wow that was strange. but i have ful knowledge of my suroundings.

I am a bite confuse on the EEG as it said i was too drowsy during the awake portion, but iknow i was thinking of what i had to do that day during the test.

Ugh it is fustrating not knowing what is going on with my head.

The 'drift off' thoughts that you get, are you responsive? are you aware of your surroundings, or can you not remember anything during them?

I am ususally aware of my surroundings. But i do this all the time, but it seems to have been getting worse, I am responsive, I can remember things during them, it just seems like i drift off in my thought. for a few seconds and bamb back to what i am doing and i shake it off as i must be losing my mind.

I do not think i know what absent siezures are.

I am primarily diagnosed with absences, though I have had a few isolated incidents such as atonics (drop) seizures and what I think to be partials.
Absences can vary, but my seizures last for up to 20 seconds and I have about 50 a day, this can double or more if I have over indulged with alcohol and various other activities.

I lose consciousness and full awareness. When I come back round, I know that I have had a seizure as my eyes and head feel strained. I am confused for a few seconds and cannot remember what I was doing or talking about. The seizures don't really bother me, they are just a pain in the butt and an embarrasment as I never seem to get any relief from them, they carry the same restrictions as larger seizures i.e. not being able to drive.

Take a read around the website, there is a lot to be learnt about all different types of seizures. I was clueless about seizures when I first joined, this site has been a godsend for me, I have learnt so much from the members at CWE and everyone here has offered me a great deal of support. I have had epilepsy for over 20 years and I have learnt more from joining CWE 8 months ago then I have learnt in my lifetime.

My daughter is the one with seizures, however I spent about 30 yrs with migraines. Mostly they were behind my left eye, and stiffness and aches around my neck area. What has allowed me relief is ionic magnesium. You might give it a trial and see if you are deficient. Many are.

I am sorry to hear of your pain and condition you are in and I hope that you recieve help soon. The eye jerking you reffer to could be a type of Nystagmus which I have. I was born with it though and can see everything shaking all day long- it is a neurological condition where my brain is trying to find light, even though things look real bright to me anyways. Kinda odd lol. I also have the EMG, EEG, and VEP which showed I was totally blind. I am blind but have some remaining vision in which somedays I can see and some days I cannot use my vision. Anyways- I also have tinnitus but from bilateral hearing loss/deafness in both ears at 80% loss. The remaining hearing I use with hearing aids.

SO- I would recommend seeing an opthomolgist who specialises in diseases of the eyes, an audiologist who specialise in the ear, throat and nose- and they could prehaps provide you with more answers than Dr. Neurologist. Even thought they specialise in many things- he might be over looking something.

Some seizures' focus can be the part of the brain in the back that deal with vision and processing. Any muscle in the body can be effected by a seizure- although a seizure normally shows up on EEG some may not at first. The eyes have three muscle on top, bottom and two on each side controlling the eye- if a seizure or electrical discharge happens near those or in the brain that controls those- you basically can have a seizure or disruption in the functioning of those muscle. Now, I would definatly ask ur neurologist about that too since I am obviously not one LOL.

Welcome to CWE! The "eye seizures" are also falls
under either the Reflex or Atypical Absence or
Occipital Lobe Epilepsy / Seizures. Just one EEG
report that captured it does not clarify it sufficiently.
The Neurologist knows for a fact that "it is there",
but to capture it would be tough.

But then again, it could fall under an episode of
Simple or Complex Partial Seizures/Epilepsy, a mild
case of it. So your "poor Neurologist" has to determine
exactly what and where --> especially to be able to
pin point it directly; for the treatment varies for
many types of seizures. Your Neurologist would want
the best for you, but it can also be frustrating as well.

I can understand the "eye" issues, for I have had them
sporadically for as long as I can remember; it is annoying
as heck! Mine is mostly to my left eye, it only lasts for
about 3 to 5 seconds, going on and off for about 1 or
2 minutes before it finally stops. It was almost always
on my left eye, rarely ever on my right eye or both eyes.

When one Neurologist inquired as how did it feel? I
was quite at loss for words to describe it and I could
only say "feels like someone has an invisible string
on my muscles there and is pulling on it and won't
stop it and I'd like to cut those strings please". My
Doctor could not stop laughing.

Headaches and tinnitus could both be indications of a lack of ionic magnesium.

Check this out: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f23/night-sweats-sleep-apnea-799/. I strongly suspect you are experiencing severe sleap apnea if you are waking with numbness. I'd recommend you ask your doctor about a sleep study. Just about everything you've mentioned could be caused by severe sleep apnea.
