Welcome Potter Freak

I know what you mean when you talk about fatigue & carbamazapine. It makes me feel tired & on bad days it makes me feel like I'm thinking through mud.

I've been on it for a long time so I guess I'm lucky that I"m used to a lot of the side-effects.

Hi Potter Freak, welcome to CWE!

I think fatigue is one of the most common side effect of AEDs, since they are meant to sedate the brain in a way. You might want to ask your doctor if you can back off your dose slightly to see if it helps.

I have to take a nap every afternoon. I basicaly pass out as soon as I lay down.

I usually get up at a decent hour and go to bed at a fairly early, but I just have to have that nap.

I know too that the day after I have a sez, I am completly out of it all day. All I do is sleep.

I'm the same way valeried I have a nap almost everyday and then I'm in bed by 8pm or 8:30pm. because I feel soo tired

Hi Potter Freak, Welcome to CWE :) I have to say that sleepiness is something I've experienced with every ead I've ever taken :| I tend to nod off a lot during the day...kind of drives the people around me nuts cause I'll do it while they are tlaking to me, lol.

Hey Potter freak,

I've had sleepiness with all my meds unfortunately.

What is an RPN? Mental health nurse?

I LOVE Harry Potter too. Books & films are amazing. Reading them all again at the moment.

I'm going to guess that's the same as RGN's here?! I studied as a student nurse myself...Didn't manage to finish my course though due to epilepsy & lack of money, but it was good fun, I loved it! I'm an HCA now so I still work in a hospital.
I hadn't read HP for ages either...I'm on the goblet of fire now. I'm not really sure which is my fav, I love them all! They're ace

Potter Freak, Welcome and good luck with your schooling. I used to be an Emergency Medical Technician and Pharmacy Technician I have also worked as a nurses aide. My only experience with bad drug sleepiness with phenobarbital and dilantin and the phenobarbital was horrible as a child I was just a zombie who woke during school once and while literally drooling on my desk (way over medicated). I Just starred Klonopin so I don't know. I personally think learning to spell drug names is like having a seizure! LOL!

Again welcome and good luck with school.

Hi Peter Freak,

Like you I have the side-effect of tiredness and sleepiness. I, too take carpamazaphine - 800mgs/day. And like many people have stated tiredness and sleepiness are very common side-effects of not only carbazaphine but many other epilepsy meds too.

Hoping that you do well in your studies - wishing you the very best of luck on that and that you do very well. Also hoping that you are enjoying your studying a lot too. Are you?

Like you and a few others on here I love the Harry Potter books - very are so excellent - really enjoy reading them!!! Think I have all of them now!!!

I remember too that shortly after I was diagnosed with epilepsy one med combo I was on all I did was sleep. I didn't eat or anything, just sleep. I lost a ton of weight and then the neuro changed my meds that I was on and have been pretty much ok since then.

But as I said above, I still have to take that nap or I'm out of it!
