Hi, Kah!

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place. The people in here give me the support I need to keep going. It feels good to help other people, too. :)

Dig in and read the posts that interest you. They go way back in time, but the topics are still valuable.

Thanks Everybody! :)

Yea, I didnt get a chance t fill out the rest of my profile. Well, I've had siezures all my life. It started when they thought I'd appendixitus, then they removed my appendix. Of coarse they siezures continued. They really dont know the cause of my siezures. When they did figure out the problem, or atleast part of it, they started trying different meds to control them. I am allergic to the entire class of meds that is used to control siezures specifically. Just imagine how many reactions I had. They rralized that they had to use meds that have anticonvulsant properties instead. I started a Depakote regime when I was bout 7 or 8 and continured that into me late 27th year. I took that for about 20yrs and in th end it just didnt work the way it should. So they changed me to Lamictal and Trazadone. I was taking the name brand Lamictal but I'm currently taking the generic and I dont feel like it works. All in all my siezures are under control though I still have Aura quite abit. I've had the entire range of siezures and have died a couple of times from the big ones.
Sorry for any typoes. Be warned... I have a habit of only using three vowels dropping "E's" and "O's."

Welcome Kah :hello: Glad you found us. Not to worry, a lot of us have trouble typing...some days worse than others. We can figure posts out pretty well. Hope you enjoy your time here :)

Welcome Kah, but... eh... being Dutch I must admit I do find it very difficult to understand your message... Guess my foreign highschool English isn't enough. :ponder:

Kah, mind if I translate?

In English, we have five vowels: A-E-I-O-U. Kah often leaves out the vowels E an O from his words.

So he really only uses 3 vowels: A-I-U

That really would need some translating, but we'll figure it out. :)

P.S. Dutchmom, your english is excellent!

OK..... I am a male. My first name is Kæíou(Kaeiou when they dont have th characters). Its so hard t say I cant even explain how t say it through typing. yes in english we do have 5 vowels, and often I do only use three vowels th A-I-U. I typically leave th "o" off of the word "to" and aome others aswell; I dropp "e's" like crazy though... the=th, me/my=m, you=ya/y, you plural is ya"ll... I'm from Texas. lol Ad ya'll can be used as plural or singular. I once spoke Afrikaans and Dutch, but alas I've no one t practice with. I'm a druid and in some writing system they use there are only three vowels, ad in college I had t develope a form of short hand to write quick, so I started leaving vowels out, diphongs are a single characer symbol as i conjunt them.
lemme know if ya need explaining... Foreighn Language and symbol is my sevantism

Does anybody...

have problems taking generic meds? I feel like my generic Lamictal isnt even working. I've had problems in th past w generic meds not working. Does anybody else have this issue?

Thanx for explaining Endless and Kah.
Kah, I'll take it as a challenge to decode your posts.
(And by the way, I was right to interpretate Kah as masculin and imo Kæíou is a beautiful name. )

Ya know, spome of that might have been my own misunderstanding. I've a real problem interpreting standard typed text sometimes. I can hear th voice inflection nor can I read it as one can when something is written. Dutch Mom... you seem like a very kind hearted person, though those who I've run into on here have all been nice. Thanks for th compliment on my name! :) I'm not up to date on some of th lingo used in typing these days. imo=In my opinion?

IMH = In My Humble Opinion

I'm in the same boat. I have to ask my 15 year old neices a lot about what stuff means.

ROTFLOL :roflmao:

(rolling on the floor laughing out loud)

LOL. I'm all th time gettin into arguements via text due t some misunderstanding. Dad-gum-it.. I'm ol' school and just hate texting but that how people communicate these days. kids these days are are way too dependant on technology.

Hey Kah --

Generic meds can be problematic because they often contain less of the active ingredient then the brand name version, and because they vary from batch to batch. If you're at all sensitive to inconsistencies in your meds, then you're better off finding a way to take the brand version. Often docs will prescribe the brand version and insist on "no substitutions" to make sure the brand is actually what you get.

I'm on the generic version of Lamictal, and I haven't had any problems since switching from the brand version except a but more dizziness from time to time.

That makes alot of sense. I cant say I feel dizzy, but when I aura the feeling is kinda similar t th first stages of bein dizzy. I think I'm gonna talk t th doc bout this. Have an appt at th end of the month, I'll have t hang in there till then.

has anybody...

Has anybody been referred to a pshycolgist so that they can monator meds instead of a neurologist?

If the meds are prescribed for epilepsy, then the neurologist is ordinarily the one who will monitor them -- they are most familiar with dosage, target blood levels, side effects, alternative meds, etc. In most states in the U.S., a psychologist can't prescribe meds (a psychiatrist can). If your seizures are well-controlled, then it's possible you could have your regular doctor take over prescribing duties, but that would be at the discretion of both your neurologist and your regular doc.
