Hi, I came across this forum in my search for more information about seizures. About a month ago, I experienced a tonic clonic while visiting some family (never had a seizure before, or so I thought at the time). Went to the hospital where they found nothing. When I got home, I set up an appointment with a neurologist, who I just met with last week. He is sending me for an MRI and EEG. In the mean time, he had me talk to my wife and others to find out about unusual behavior. As it turns out, my wife noticed that I would periodically space out and become unresponsive. She thought I was just not paying attention and she was starting to get pretty annoyed with me over it. This started about the same time I started complaining of headaches. My doc and I also talked about medications. Specifically, he mentioned Topamax. He didn't put me on anything yet, but will most likely will at my next appointment. I am not enthused in the least about it, but may not have a choice as I need to retain my driving privileges. We live quite rural and things would become somewhat difficult otherwise. All in all, this has turned my life upside down and I am trying to get a grasp on the whole situation. Thanks for listening and look forward to learning! Thanks!

Almost all of the seizures that I have are the type you described - I space out and be unresponsive to anything. This is actually how my husband know's that I'm having a seizure, because I won't answer him and just stare away into space. Usually after any seizure I'll have a horrible headache that will last for hours.

Differen't states have different rules about driving with epilepsy. Some are 6 months or 1 year seizure free before you can drive.

I live in the country with no public transportation and it is pretty hard to get around. I've had epilepsy for 9 years now and I've adjusted to it, with help from family and friends. If they say not to drive then don't! If you have a seizure when you are driving you could wreck the car killing yourself or someone else.

I'm not on Topamax but there are several others on here that are so I'm sure you'll get some good info about it. You'll find alot of help on here - nice to meet you.
