Hi All,
I am new :)
I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 16. I had my first grand mal in the October of 2003, the Dr's couldn't diagnose anything yet. So basically I had to wait for another one to happen! Eventually it did, in January of 2004. My little sister who was 9 at the time actually saved me as I had a seizure in the swimming pool! I was placed on epilim. I gained weight and felt really depressed, so my neurologist switched me to lamictal, in which I lost majority of the weight. Then in 2010 i started having black outs and complex partial seizures. In September of 2010 I had another grand mal and added Topamax as an additional medication to help control the seizures. This eventually stopped working and I was placed back on the epilim. I knew the side affects, but I would rather have seizure control than lose my independence! I am not on 800mg of epilim a day and 200mg of lamictal per day. Everything is going great. The epilim again made me gain weight, I was 70kgs at one stage, I was so tired and my appetite was ridiculous! There was no one who could help me except ME. I am now a happy 53kgs and have never felt better :). Also I am looking at starting a family, is there anyone who has had a baby whilst on epilim?
Thanks guys :)

Hi Canderina. Welcome to the forum. I hope you fin a lot of useful info here.

Hi, Thank you for the great news! I am newly on lamictal as well as keppra and hope i do not gain weight. I wanted to say that as a man i never did pregnancy with E but I have a son (now 11) and he has been scared of seeing me have a seizure. He has never seen one. We have been trying to teach him about it and help him to not be afraid, but how to deal with it. Congrats! on being able/ready to start the family!
