Hi everyone! I've been lurking here a few days and decided I might as well sign up. I just got diagnosed with epilepsy last week and even just lurking here it's been encouraging to see how well other people are handling this situation. Honestly, I feel like I've got it comparatively easy compared to some of the things I've read here but you've all shown me this thing can be dealt with.

I've only had two seizures 18 months apart, which was enough for my neurologist to make the diagnosis and put me on lamotrigine (and I've got to have the 72 hour EEG in a couple of weeks.) I had an MRI and an EEG after the first seizure but they came back clean so after I got through the 6 months without driving I kind of put it out of mind. So much for that...

I'm a little shaken up by this turn of events but we're working around it as best we can. The meds are making me tired and I start brooding every time I can't think of a word I'm looking for or make a typo. Also this last time I'm pretty sure I damaged my rotator cuff in my left shoulder so that's been inconvenient.

At any rate, I hope you all don't mind that I've run on a bit - I'm still kind of sorting this all out in my head and not sure how to talk with my wife and extended family yet even though they've all been really helpful.

Thanks you all!

Welcome! Im glad you found us! :)

Were all here to help each other the best we can! Ive found alot of helpful people here at CWE. I hope things go well for you and if there are any questions you may have, I find it helpful to just post it and we will do our best to help!

Welcome, Matlock!

I'm sorry about your diagnosis, but I'm glad you are here. It's a friendly place with nice folks, and good information. Everyone is here to support each other.

Hello and welcome to the party! It is always great to meet someone new. Sorry that you are dealing with this now, but we are here for you :)

Hi, hello

and how do you do, Matlock??? It's very nice to "meet" you!

I'm glad you've managed to find us here at CWE....Mr B, our host has built us a wonderful home, as you've already discovered, and the dinner party is just grand. Feel free to kick back, relax and enjoy!1

Sorry about the diagnosis, but it's not the end of the world....you will have plenty of support here. EEGs are such a blast, I swear (my old neuro had a penchant for them) but I don't MRIs too much.

What type of seizures do you have, if you don't mind my asking?

Hi Matlock, my favorite TV attorney, glad to have you here. You are taking this very well. That is how I do things: 1. positive attitude
2. face up to our challenges in life
3. accept it.

Bernard made this forum out of love for his wife Stacy. That love permeates throughout the whole forum.

Hi Matlock, welcome to CWE!

My sympathies with your shoulder; my seizures tore the labrum in my left shoulder, and I'm now looking at a second surgery to patch the problem.

I hope the Lamotrigine works for you (It does the trick for me, with tolerable side effects).

Best,
Nakamova

Hey Matlock!

Welcome! I'm new myself--and already I've gotten so much support and helpful information. If you have a question, don't hesitate to post it--someone will undoubtedly be quick to respond with their input and encouragement!

Also, I'm just getting started on lamotrigine (Lamictal)--I have a discussion started in The Kitchen, I'd love to hear your input as well!

Take good care!
Greg

Wow, thanks for all the welcoming messages you all! It's encouraging to get the positive vibes. To answer a question, both times were the tonic-clonic kind apparently. I dunno, I just know what my wife saw and how the doc interpreted it; both times it happened while I was asleep so I never had any warning. Of course given how I felt afterward that sounds about right.
Nakamova, that stinks about your shoulder, I'm lucky enough that it seems like mine'll sort itself out - I'm getting a better range of motion but not a lot of load-bearing capability.
Thanks again everyone.
Matt
