Hope I've got this in the right place. I'm Colman - the new kid on the block - & how I've never found this great site before, I don't know. I'm especially pleased because all other sites for those of us with E contain posts which Noah must have written! They are soooooo oooold!!!!! - Meaning nothing constructive re: advice/swapping experiences could be found.

I'm an unstable epileptic, first diagnosed in early 2000 but complicated by suffering a brain injury in 2006. I'm married with a gorgeous wife who cares for me tons & 2 wonderful kids who know exactly how to do the same, so I'm very lucky.

Also lucky that I've still been able to work in a role which bounces me around Europe - but that's down to my Boss who has supported me throughout, like the big sister I've never had.

Outside interests/passions are rugby union (Munster & Ireland) and Shotokan Karate. Belief it or not, Shotokan isn't just about chopping wood up with your hands - the concentration/meditation needed to perform various Kata is quite relaxing and calming.

Afraid I can't think of anything else to say @ the mo but, no doubt more will become apparent as I find my way 'round. Just be gentle with me - & if you want to know anything more, just give me a shout!

Take Care & hope to hear from you/someone/anyone soon.

Colman

Welcome CM

You definitely are lucky to have the family you have.

Regarding your Karate, you might be interested that meditation is often used to help peoples epilepsy. Do you see a change in seizure activity relating to how often you practice your karate?

Also, what type of seizures do you have & what meds (if any) are you on? Do you use any other type of supplement or diet to help control your seizures?

Hi Colman!!

Welcome to our humble abode! This is a great place for advice or just chatting, ranting or anything else you need. Everyone is very helpful. Sounds like you have a great family and wonderful boss, two of the most important things that you need! I hope you feel welcome here :hello:

Hi Colman, welcome!

Feel free to explore all the different forums. Plenty of great advice and support to be found here.

Best,

Hi Colman!

It's nice to meet you!

I'm sure you're going to fit right in here....and you'll find that there are plenty of UK folk hanging out here as well. :) Maybe a few of them will stop by and give you a shout.

It seems to me that you're doing quite well--that's an accomplishment you should be proud of considering that your E isn't controlled. It can't always be easy. And kudos to your boss as well. I've had some bosses who were real twerps about it, as have some others here.

Check out all the different nooks and crannies here--we've got plenty of them. Mr B has built us an AWESOME home here, and the dinner party is in full bloom tonight. I burnt the coffee again--hopefully someone else made some that's decent.

Kick up your feet and relax. You've found a great place to make friends.

Take care!

Welcome, Coleman!

You are so lucky to have a family and a boss like you have! I'm glad you are here, too. We'll be like the really big family you never had. ;)

Outside interests/passions are rugby union (Munster & Ireland)

I like you already lol. What do you reckon our chances are with the All-Blacks this saturday? The Samoa game was painful to watch, even though we did win! I used to do karate, but only got as far as the kion kata (did i even spell that right) before dislocating my ankle on st paddy's day. Never got back to it though i wish i had.

Hey there i'm Lou. I'm currently in Blackpool, but I'm an Ulster woman through and through.

Welcome to the site! I've found it a great help since my diagnosis early in 2008.

Hi Epileric Hope you are well & that you got my msg yesterday. Am now on train heading for the frozen North!
My karate, these days is purely aimed at a means of staying physically fit - obviously this is important coz if I sffer a GM or worse, I can be poleaxed for quite some time. Plus, should a local yobbo jump out of the bushes at me or my wife ....!!
Shotokan requires a good deal of dedicated meditation techniques which are so beneficial in themselves, too.

Hi Epileric Hope you are well & that you got my msg yesterday.

Thanks Colman, I"m doing well. Sorry I didn't get any message from you but I"m glad you double checked.

In the meantime enjoy your trip north. I'll keep a lookout in case you send me another message.

Hi mi Cairdre

Hiya "LL" Good to get such a quick response. We'll have to figure out common words/sentences to confuse the buggery out of others!!

Strangely enough I fancy our chances against the All Blacks - we always seem to raise our game against the "big boys" - As long as ROG stays on the bench - he's couldn't hit a bull's backside with a shovel, so far for Munster!

So come on, be truthful - you dislocated your ankle when? And your trying to blame it on karate? (Pints of Smithwicks wouldn't have anything to do with it would they?!!

Am off to see Ballet Ireland tonight, with our daughter - a friend is their Artistic Director so it's Jana's night to be spoilt in the Green Room!

I used to get to Blackpool a fair bit too as I had a friend who lived in Bistham @ the North Shore (but he died a while ago). However we still get there as it's quite easy to go across to Carlisle then bomb straight down the M6.

Monday sees me in Sunderland @ Stadium of Light when we play Everton - it's like "Little Ireland" on match days, that place!

Anyway must go for now. Is there some way you can add me to your friends list - that would be great!

Take Care & Bain taithneamh as an deireadh (Bet that has 'em guessing!).

Col.

Hi Epileric - Probs with messages will, no doubt, be down to me trying to find my way around site. (It does get frustrating to be told every 2nd attempt that my u/n or p/w is invalid, though).

I could always think of new words - but I don't think the 'mods' would let me use those!!

BW; Col.

Hey Colman -- "have a good weekend" yourself! (Alright, I cheated and looked up the Gaelic online, but I do have an Irish friend who teaches me a few phrases from time to time. I once took a course in Scottish Gaelic, but it didn't stick -- it's ridiculously hard, and only about 7 people still speak it...).

Mo Ghaeilge uafásach! lol.

Bíodh deireadh seachtaine iontach also :D

Ok, this is twisting my tongue into knots now lol.

They never taught us the good old tongue where i'm from. They're very anti-everything in Ballymena lol. I only know some odd bits i've learnt myself, and i can't vouch for actual translation!

Hey colman:hello:

Sorry that your seizures aren't controlled, but glad you found us here. You'll find all kinds of help and camaraderie.

I agree about karate. I used to study tae-kwon-do, kenpo, and arnis back in the day. After I had my first seizure a few years ago, I felt compelled to get back into it. It felt GREAT! I was a little older, and though I couldn't kick quite as high, my form was still pretty good. (If I do say so myself:lol:) Unfortunately, my seizures are caused by a tumor near my motor cortex, and, as it turned out, jerky motions like punching/blocking with my right arm acted as a trigger. Oops!

And though I'm a Yank and don't know much about rugby, I say GO ALL BLACKS! Sorry, but my Samoan step-brothers and sisters, in addition to being big Samoa fans obviously, are huge All Blacks fans.:D

I'm gonna miss the game today, Will be off to see Harry Potter instead. Yay for Sky Plus! I can record it and watch later :D

Eireanne Go Brach!
