Hello, I'm so glad that I found this site. i have a 7 yr old son who was dx with epilepsy last yr. His seizures are mostly controlled but occassionally he gets prolonged tingling and spasms in his hands and or feet. It could last for hours, not sure if this is seizure related or possible low electrolyte related. Will be on here a lot seeking answers and sharing my experiences.

Welcome Dee

It's always good to have one more perspective on things.

What medication is your son on & is it possible that it's a side-effect of the meds? I don't think tingling is an effect of low electrolytes. I do get a tingling in my head & extremities during my seizures though.

Thanks for your quick reply.
He is has been taking oxycarbazepine 450mg twice daily for the past 9 mos. He also has rashes on his thighs that his pcp diagnosed as excema which he has had before. I was thinking that the rashes were a side effect of the meds also but why just the legs??

Ahhhh.. Trileptal. I was on that stuff for awhile.

Trileptal is known for causing drug reaction rashes. I got the drug reaction rash from both Lamictal and Trileptal. Mine was red patches filled with tiny little pinpoint bumps. Here's a pic that looks a lot like mine did, except I had fewer patches and they were on my arms: http://health-pictures.com/rash/lamictal-rash.htm

Your doctor should know the difference between exema and a drug reaction rash. The thing is, if it is a drug reaction rash it could turn into Steven's Johnson Syndrome (SJS), which is extremely serious and can be life threatening. Here's more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevens–Johnson_syndrome

If it were me I'd have the rash checked out by a dermatologist, just in case. Possible drug reaction rash that could progress to SJS is nothing to mess with.

P.S. Here's a site that has dermatology photos. It shows different kinds of skin conditions. It's not all-inclusive of every skin disease, but has quite a few of them.
