Hi,

My name is JLogefeil and I m new to this site. I have seizures and I was in the hospital on April 2 then life flighted to San Fransico the next afternoon because I had a seizure at Walmart.
They said I was having troubles breathing when I got to the hospital so they interbated me. My inlaws and husband feel as though the reason I needed to be interbated was because they OD me on anti seizure meds.
So they did the whole EEG thing and first they thought I was having psudoseizures and regular seizures then the next day they came back saying I have just the so called psudoseizures.
They wanted me to go see a pyciatrist (spelled that wrong).
So I did and my first appointment was today and the doc thinks that there not psudoseizures. He thinks there regular seizures or some thinking something Biological is cause them.
So I have a couple questions to ask and I really need some help here this is so stressing me out.
1. What do you feel like after a seizure?
Would you label this kind of seizure? (this is what happens to me)
I can feel one coming on because I feel like something is controlling me, my head like turns really fast to the side, then I fall shake foam comes out of my mouth, my eyes roll back into my head and I blink as well, I sometimes pee and poop my pants.
After a seizure I feel tired and out of it and all I want to do is sleep, and I have a headache.
This is what happened to me, I don't remember anything about it, I just know this because of what my husband has told me.
So anyone out there that could help me I would love it.
Thank you

Hi there. Welcome to the site!

Couple of questions just to clear things up....
do you know what kind of meds they were giving you? Do you remember them intubating you?
Do you know what EEG results made them think you had regular seizures, and then what made them change their mind to pseudo seizures?
Interesting that the psychiatrist didn't think they were!
Did they work you up for biological seizures? Blood sugar, cardiac, thyroid...?
I don't blame you for feeling stressed out at all. It's a normal response that is for sure.
Many neurologists look at EEG results and think that they are conclusive but clean EEG results don't disprove epileptic seizures.
Usually with pseudoseizures you do not pee your pants. Did you feel your head turning, your body falling and shaking, mouth foaming and your eyes rolling? Then black out? Or do you not remember a thing and this is what people tell you what happens? Is the only warning you get is the "something is controlling me" feeling?
After seizures you absolutely feel tired, confused and want to sleep. Many people get headaches afterwards too.
It sounds like a tonic clonic if you no memory at all.
It's hard for us to say for sure of course but you NEED a second opinion.
Especially if they haven't ruled out any biological reasons. Can the psychiatrist give a write-up stating they don't believe they are pseudoseizures?
Either way, hold on and be patient because it sounds like you're going to be on a long ride to diagnosis!

These are all classic signs of a tonic-clonic, and like LJ said, especially if you don't remember it and only know what happened from being told. I agree with her also in regards to losing control of bladder or bowels not being typical with pseudoseizures.

When I have a T-C I experience all of the above except the loss of bladder/bowel control and the foam. Apparently I drool a lot though.
A few questions:
-Whenever this is witnessed does anyone hear you let out a moan or small howl-like sound? This is also a classic T-C sign.
-Do you bite your tongue and/or cheeks? If after coming to you have a sore tongue or your mouth is bleeding that is also a strong sign.
(If either of the above happens be sure to tell all doctors involved, it will help make the distinction easier to figure out).

Best of luck sorting it all out, it's good to know there is someone within the medical community who feels these are epilepsy-related. That's a good start.

Hi JLogefeil, welcome to CWE!

I agree with what LJ said above. Your symptoms are much more likely to be epileptic seizures rather then psychogenic. Definitely ask the psychiatrist to provide a written evaluation indicating his belief that your seizures are epileptic. And then get a referral to a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy in order to get proper diagnosis and treatment.

Are you on any anti-seizure medications at the moment? If not, then you should be careful just in case you are at risk for having another seizure. If you have any idea of what may have triggered the initial seizure, do your best to avoid that. Even if you don't know, try to avoid stress of all kinds -- physical, physiological, and emotional. Eat and drink moderately and healthily, avoid extremes of alcohol and caffeine, get plenty of sleep, etc.

I hope you feel better soon.

Best,
Nakamova
