Hi to all,

I am have had epilepsy since i was 7 and am now 38 years old.

I have Idiopathic tonic clonic seizures but that means i have a brain as they checked it on the monitor. lol

I have three children after being told i would never be able to have them due to epilepsy. My youngest has Foetal Anti Convulsant Syndrome which is now diagnosed. We are currently going to court with this as the doctors/genetisists and other people that i saw through my life never ever told me about birth defects.

I foster four children with my husband and dare anyone to tell me i cant do anything i want. lol:woot:

Hi Kez, welcome to the forum. :hello:

Most AEDs include some increased risk of birth defects. Has your youngest's Foetal Anti Convulsant Syndrome been linked to an AED you were taking?

Yes i was taking 1600mg of epilim daily and they gave me the folic acid blah blah blah bit. I didnt drink, smoke do drugs and neither did my husband. There is no history of any defects in our family like that.

We have seen various genetisists from st thomas in london and also our gp. none of them told me anything like that and i even had the tests prior to the birth etc. I think i was one of the most probed mums around at the time.lol

There was a genetisist who diagnosed my son and said that it was to do with the type of tablet i was on so we contacted a solicitor who was dealing with the case and joined their action.

I am currently in a class action persuing it and have actually made it into the test case for Oct.

Welcome Kezza - I am glad that you decided to join us here at CWE.
It sounds like you have been around the block a few times. I also have three kids, and we fostered two other teen boys.

My daughter is the one with a seizure disorder. She is 16.

I think of it as a life experience i grew up with a family who felt i shouldnt do things.

Dont get me wrong i have to be careful but life is too short to say "I cant" if you can.lol

I love my work and my life experiences up till now help.

My husbands older brother has an acquired brain injury and now has mild seizures due the level of damage he has endured. He is also a paraplegic so as i say life is for living and i wouldnt change a thing. It makes me.

This one?

I haven't run across many news stories on it in a while. Please do keep us informed on what happens with the lawsuit.

Will do, the solicitor dealing with it is Irwin Mitchell.

We have endless amounts of paperwork and i dont doubt it will get messy before long. My husband and i used to work for a large reinsurance company and are aware of the out of court settlements that they will try or the dirty tricks they will also try.

But we are in it for our son.
