Ok first off my name is Jessica and it is my usband who has seizures. 3 yrs ago he started having them so far no eeg's show anything no ct scans or mri's. Ok up until april 09 he had NO dr who would help him everyone accused him of lying and faking them. we know this heat, strobes, low sugar are def triggers others we aren't sure. When he has a seizure they look to be grand mal type. he has had a severe sinus infection from the get go and 2 surgeries to correct with no success. can anyone help us ask ?'s his neuro has done many many tests and the only things we have found is a small heart issue and his cpk was at a number it looked as if he may have or be getting ms this last test hadn't changed so the drs don't care. he had a seizure today after getting a shot at the dentist office i have heard and please if anyone else can verify thru personal experience please let me know that seizure patients can have seizures when given the numbing shot and if they are left lying down for a long period of time if that is true than we have a winner I find it so facinating and frustrating what epilepsy and or seizures period do to people. I am doing what i can here at where I am to advocate b/c so many are uneducared as to epilepsy and seizure disorders. thank you for your time

Hi Jessica, welcome to CWE!

How frustrating! There are plenty of people here who have epilepsy, without ever having something show up on an MRI or EEG test. Often the epilepsy originates to deep in the brain to be picked up. Even if doctors suspected that your husband's seizures were psychogenic (that is caused by psychological trauma rather than neurons misfiring), they still ought to have treated him with respect and tried to make sure he got the proper treatment. I hope the doctors he's seeing now treat him and his epilepsy with care.

There could be a few different factors at play given the seizure at the dentist's office. Everyone has different triggers -- it could be everything from stress from being at the dentist, to a reaction to fluorescent lighting in the dentist's office, to an allergy from ingredients in the numbing shot. It's a good idea to keep a journal recording info about his seizures -- when they happen, what happens, how long they last -- and also information about possible triggers: diet, metabolism, hydration, sleep habits, physical and emotional stressors, overall health. If you can identify a particular trigger you can potentially avoid to reduce or eliminate your husband's seizures.

It's also useful to have the seizure journal when you see the neurologist. You should ask the neurologist what his diagnosis is and why, what are the different treatment options, etc. If you have any questions at all keep asking until you feel you understand what' going on. Ask for a written record of the appointment too, for future reference.

And you can always post questions here -- the cumulative experiences and insights of the members of CWE is a great resource, plus we're always here if you just want to chat or vent.

Best,
nakamova
