Hi,
I'm a new comer to this forum but I have been coping with epilepsy since the age 0f 3 1/2, it was a difficult childhood with health issues throughout my early years to junior high school. High school was better and my early adult life was on and off with the seizures . I probably encountered more but didn't realize they were seizures until my later in life. In 2008, I was told by my neurologist that the seizures I have been having were complex partial seizures. My husband and I didn't realize that when I would scratch my pillow at night that it was a seizure. In 2009, I had brain surgery and they removed my amedula and a sliver of the hippoccampus. the neuro-surgeon wasn't able to remove what he wanted all at once and didn't want to take too much out because he couldn't put it back. After surgery I felt great, much better than before; beause before surgery I had to be in a dark room and a quiet environment. Muscle pain and severe headache and much more.
After 7 months recovery I went back to work in as an early childcare educator. I was so happy to go back to work, I enjoyed working and everything was going well. In august 2011 my neurologist gave me the ok to get my licence back; I was finally going to get it back. Thern not to long after I had a seizure. It disappointed me but thought still worked at the daycare. In late September the week of my birthday I began to have violent headaches ; sharp shooting pain on L&R temporal lobe as my skull is so sensitive touch it is undiscrisbable. I'm presently on long term disability and had every test possible taken fromm MRI,spinal tap, cat scan,EEG, and no answers.
I join this forum to hear from others and to see what alternative treatment with natural remedies can be useful.

Welcome Believer,
There are many members that have had surgery. So I will let them speak about that.

My daughter has been helped by alternative therapies. One that you might look into, I have no idea if it is available in your area. Neurofeedback has show great results in retraining the brain. It was beneficial for my daughter, as was making nutritional changes. She has had 50+ tonic clonic seizures in a 6 yr span, but over the past year she has not had one. She takes no medication now either.

My suggestion would be to go take a look in the Library of CWE and read all that you can. I have a friend here that had surgery and made changes to her diet and has seen great results. There are stories throughout the forum.

Make yourself comfortable. So sorry you have had such a rough go of it.

Hi Believer, welcome to CWE!

I hope you can find some answers here. I assume you have exhausted prescription meds, but if not you might ask about taking a very low dose of anti-depressant -- not because I think you are depressed, but because an anti-depressant can sometimes help prevent the feedback loop that can happen with chronic pain.

Have you tried Therapeutic Touch or a gentle massage like craniosacral? As Robin mentions, it's also possible that dietary or nutritional changes might make a difference. Some studies have indicated that fish oil helps reduce the frequency/severity of migraine attacks. Upping your consumption of certain spices might help too (cumin, turmeric, paprika, cayenne, and cinnamon have analgesic effects). Of course, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for all, so proceed with caution, and consult your doctor before adding supplements or making major changes.

Best,
Nakamova

I was looking at a supplement or I should say a natural remedy is epi-still and I'm not thinking of getting off my meds withoit doctors knowledge but I wanted to go more naturally than just drugs especially one that i have been since I was diagnosed which is phenobarb. anyway if you have any ideas and I will look in the library as well for ides. Thanks for welcoming me.
